Not tech-related but it happens with law firms, which are often Limited liability partnerships (LLPs). A notable example is Heenan Blaikie in Canada, which was the 5th biggest national law firm with offices everywhere in Canada with over 50

Well, you can possibly patent anything as long as you respect articles of the Patent Law, but if your claims are super narrow, it is worth nothing, as it would be easy to design around and not infringe.
