I don't have a link handy. I have seen these stats a lot and discussion of the problem hits HN so often that it never fails to shock me that the statement gets questioned. Someday, I will learn to keep a link handy. For now, I will jus

Problem is job growth is incredibly centralized into a few urban cores. That is why housing prices are out of control. We should realize that the centralization of work should come with the centralization of living, where we build much den

I largely agree with you, except for the subtext that homeless people are all fucked up losers who aren't really trying/can't really be helped. There is a huge deficit of affordable housing in the US. This significantly contr

Several of my relatives have this sort of issue (minus being left handed). Some of them have seen some improvement by taking B vitamins and magnesium supplements, a thing that was tried due to information from a study. It isn't a cure,

You are making a lot of assumptions that do not apply to my former marriage. For example, there was no money for each of us to have a fun budget. We just were not that well off. I don't disagree with the general principle that, in theo

The comment I was replying to did not specify "in this case" or "in this context" or "when we are talking about San Francisco." Saying that the term is very specific and specifically means X without, yourself,

If you agreed upon an expectation/consequence of "clothes left on the floor for more than 2 days will be thrown away", you wouldn't be putting up with clutter for very long. When you are married, that approach fails on

Most people discussing it on the internet do not actually live in SF. This here is the internet. I just checked. I am not in San Francisco and I am talking about it.

It might be a very specific term clearly defined that way by certain government programs or NGOs, but most people using it just mean housing that people with low incomes can afford as a reasonable portion of their income.

In most cases, when you improve a property, you then charge more because it is improved. It isn't unreasonable on an individual basis, but the end result is that affordable units disappear and do not get replaced. Rinse and repeat and

I am the top ranked openly female member here. That observation is informed by long experience. In gendered discussions that get heated, the majority of people on HN will tend to side with the man or the male point of view. Once a man says

Emotional labor is a real thing and a large part of what women are expected to do is rooted in catering to the feelings of other people. But, yeah, it gets used kind of sloppily. Just about anything women want to complain about gets lumped
