Really frustrating for a hobbyist 3D artist. Rendering eats gobs of RAM for complex scenes. I'd really love a mid-level GPU with lots of VRAM for under $500. As is, I'm stuck rendering on CPU at a tenth the speed or making it work

Yes, but so are radio waves and gamma rays; it would still sound odd to hear somebody say "radio light" or "gamma light".

From a human user perspective, HATEOAS is effectively just the web. You follow links to get where you want, and forms let you send data where you want, all traversed from some root entrypoint. From a machine client perspective, it's a

A test for this one is a bit simpler, I think, because you just have to find a 2D projection of the shape from multiple orientations so one fits inside the other. You don't technically have to do any 3D comparisons beyond the projectio

I have showdead on, and almost every single flagged post I've seen definitely deserves it. Every time it wasn't "deserved", the person simply took an overly aggressive tone for no real reason. In short, I've never s

Most rational, empathetic people generally look down on animal abuse and animal torture. Humans are more important than any other animal to me, but it's not a total dichotomy that makes the suffering of all other thinking, feeling ani

It's probably because I've experienced a family member's suffering that I wouldn't wish anybody to do through, and also had health events myself that led to such a "reduced quality of life" (read: constant disc

The historical Jesus was with a high degree of certainty quite different than the way he is currently remembered and the way he is portrayed in much of the new testament. The majority of the stories involving him either did not happen or we

Helix very much is not a Vim rewrite in Rust. It's closer to a Kakoune clone than a Vim one.

I love Helix. There are some things Julia didn't list that I also miss from nvim, particularly using it as a 3-way diff tool, and missing code folding, but I don't see leaving Helix any time soon.

My experience with HDR has been pretty abysmal on a $500 4K TV. Badly tuned HDR is way worse than no HDR at all. I have 20/20 vision, and I really can't tell the difference between 1080p and 4K for video games and movies. I will n

Oh sure, I just mean that wording in particular. 1/6 the cost is clear to me, 6x cheaper is not, because the wording implies that there's some base point that the original price is the "1x cheaper" base point. Like what

I agree to a degree, but issue tracking being able to directly work with branches and PRs is natural enough, and then discussions can share a lot of code with the issue tracker. Getting the same level of interoperability with a separate too

Those numbers bother me. What does it mean to be "6x cheaper"? Is that a sixth the price? If something costs $100, what is 6x cheaper than it? 2x cheaper? 1x cheaper? It is as frustrating as when people use "200% faster"

Fascinating. Thanks for the information. I'll have to explore the Bluegrass space more. It's a genre that I have never given much thought or time to in the past; I was simply never exposed, other than the slim association with s

That sounds pretty good! I'll buy an album. I know nothing about Bluegrass, but I love that it has fostered a culture of digital freedom. It kind of makes sense I suppose, given that DRM freedom aligns with real traditional American va

I'm not sure I like the incentives that creates, though. If this is the precedent, then if you're committing financial fraud already you might as well go as big as possible, since there appears to be a cap on punishment.

Why not something like Bandcamp, or other DRM-free purchase options? I'm not above piracy if there's no DRM free option (or if the music is very old or the artist is long dead), but I still believe in supporting artists who active

I have to ask, do you actually mean AS/400, or IBM i? Most current development for IBM i is done in PASE. I work in IBM i, and nobody I know is still writing C++ for the ILE. I imagine most of the ILE C++ is in maintenance mode and pro

The conversation is credit cards, in which case you are absolutely paying with the bank's money, and if you don't pay it back (particularly if you can't and declare bankruptcy), they lose their money.

`ls` is not the same command in nu. There's a nu-specific `ls`. My GNU `ls` has `--literal`, but to do that in nu, you have to do `^ls --literal`, to use the external command instead of the nu builtin. You can see the nu `ls` options
