You pump the water out of it into a reservaour, than later on when you need to fill it, you let it run back and generate energy. Water power efficency is about 80-90%

My personal feeling is that just stacking 4 things together is not DIY while deciding on the ingrediants, buying them, preparing them and than cooking it, is a lot more effort. It would feel more DIY if the blog post would answer questsions

Thats how Amazon made Aurora. Move all state onto the object storage layer which is also at the end of processing (you go through the lb, than frontend, than backend, than database and land on disk). Stateless is basically moving everything
