Agreed. He's a likable chap. But I'm not a fan of "builders" that get into high-energy projects, especially when they demonstrate disregard for safety. Using your fingers to check for high temp and doubling ordinary su

Cringe-worthy on multiple levels. Instead of monitoring LED temp, he monitored cooling water temp to test his cooling system. Of course, you might consider putting his fingers on the heatsink as monitoring, lol. On a less critical note,

You're thinking about the energy conversion efficiency. They are claiming 130% quantum efficiency, i.e. the efficiency at which a photon can produce a free electron.

I worked on a construction crew one summer in 1966 building concrete structures for a sewage treatment plant. Based on this article, not much has changed. It was interesting to see the hierarchy of the various trades. The rodbusters (reba

Referencing Ken Rockwell for photo advice is pretty funny. If you don't know his reputation, just look at his photos and judge for yourself. That said, his gear reviews are useful. As for editing for brightness, contrast, ...: All

This is a report of the results of using the drug on a compassionate-use basis. The intent of the doctors was to save lives, not provide your "stats 101 stuff". I think it's shameful to broad-brush the entire coronavirus res

The PID controller explanation left out a critical concept: The controller first generates an error signal, i.e. the deviation of the input (angle in the example) from the desired input, known as the setpoint. The error is fed to the P, I,

I was a nuclear-trained operator on a boat of the same vintage as the Thresher. I joined it in 1970 just after it had been retrofitted with SubSafe systems and better operational procedures that came directly from the loss of the Thresher.

I will agree with you that steam or turbine power plants require continuous maintenance. I've got experience, too. :-) But, read the article. The ship they're talking about is a short-haul transport with battery-electric propul

This guy is going to be really sad when he learns that the dc-dc converters in most of his devices are actually dc-ac-dc converters. Evil ac must be purged.

I was a power plant operator on a nuclear submarine. We were shown a classified film that about the SL-1 incident as part of our training. Recalling that film still gives me chills. A lot was learned about reactor safety as result of that d
