I have no reason to believe Sam Altman's a similar case, but have you heard of Nick Calandra? He was editor and chief of the escapist. Last week he got fired, the entire video department (~20 people) resigned and they immediately start

I think it's a neat way to prototype rpg systems. Still some of the cleverest code I've ever written, for all the good and ill that implies. Curious what other people think.

There are tons of answers to this! I'm going to say that in projects I've worked on, LODs have been hand made about 60% of the time. There are tools for creating automatic LODs that come with their own pro's and con's. A

I have personally been responsible for optimizing unity games you haven't heard issues like this about ;) This write-up really points the finger at not solving occlusion culling or having good LOD discipline. Give a person a dedicated

> "Unity's technology stack is more like a Tower of Jenga" Unity has a RELATIVELY firm foundation, and lots of optional out buildings that are short jenga towers. It does take some bonecasting to identify which is which. I

The constituents of the atmosphere are not evenly mixed everywhere. I wager the air above my desk has a higher local PPM of Oreo cookies than yours.

This was a reply to another comment on how uncanny it is that gaming hardware allowed the current machine learning advancements. It was deleted before I finished writing, but I'm not letting that stop me from sending this anyhow. Creat

A large amount of inefficiency is actually a chain of accountability. Trust, and failing that assigning blame, and trusting those assignments, is the root of so. much.

The assertion is that if you dump a gooey grey gallon of pure covid on someone, their symptoms will be more severe than if they only get 18 virions. Do you suppose that wouldn't be the case?

HN doesn't host pictures or video. I come here well before I do twitter, reddit, facebook, youtube or anywhere else on the internet commons. I hazard there's a verdant, halcyon prairie between the two zones. The common zone of max

This is one of those _things_ that I suspect causes many greybeards to grimace. What's a tweet? We can haggle this up and down so cut me some slack. 200 bytes? 50 bytes? gzipped -90%, 5 bytes. Holy shit what absurd amount of traffic co

I thought we agreed, as a society, that arbitrary numeric thresholds are only interesting if they're in the integer series of K*10^N, where K is 1 to 9 and N is 0 to infinity. Occasional allowances for multiples of 5 -- normally only i

I didn't read anything that indicated a hard block to creating new methods that bypass the binding layer? All the layers are open source. Unity has their fair share of bolted on methods with a "NonAlloc" suffix. Seems obvious

I am a long time Unity developer, I used to evangelize heavily for them. My past evangelism disgusts me. Use Godot if you can. Help them sand the edges. Any inconveniences that costs is worth the rug pull you avoid from what Unity will do t

You don't understand, the language says _per install_ not per sale. This seems to include re-installs, multiple devices, new computers. I wouldn't have batted an eye at 20 cents per sale. Per _install_ is catastrophic.
