I have Furiphone and F(x)tec devices. They ought to work well as mobile Linux devices, but they very much do not. They are unbearably slow, which I attribute to poor storage I/O optimization and Phosh being an obese sloth.

That's something I've never encountered on Linux/KDE/Wayland/Flatpak across Debian Trixie, Arch, and Fedora. Might be worth nuking your local Zed files and trying again.

I regularly leave it open for days and never run into any copy/paste bugs in Wayland/Flatpak.

Do you have any reference guides on how to perform this distillation? I have a use case for this and hardware to run it on, but have never seen how it's done.

From the outside, I don't see the problem. The sites I visit, including LWN, never seem slow or have downtime as a result of this increase in traffic. I hear complaints from people hosting small sites, but they never seem to include co

Everyone I've ever encountered say something like this and then switch to Android cease to have any noteworthy complaints after the first month. There's a transition period for sure, and then it stops being an actual problem.

Why do online services need to know where I am? Why does my ISP need to know who I'm communicating with? For me, VPNs are about reducing privacy leakage. Most of the internet collects, aggregates, and sells knowledge about their users,

I heard a long time ago about using molten salt heated by solar mirrors for something like this, but the corrosiveness of the salt proved to be challenging. I wonder if these two technologies could be combined...

Wouldn't it be better from a legal standpoint to power the phone off and refuse to give your pin in such cases? A no-pin cold boot is pretty hard to recover data from with GrapheneOS.

Hasn't quickjs and GraalVM been able to do this for a while now? Also, does "Linux and Windows binaries build by cross-compilation" mean that you can't run it on non-MacOS? If so, that's pretty lame...

Trouble is, there's an enormous gap between when maintainers accept that a package as stable and when it actually makes it into the next release. I'd be plenty happy waiting an extra month or two for a stable release, but am not t

My recollection seems to have been from a very early story on the subject and got some terminology wrong. Apparently, supervolcanoes have to have had an eruption in the past of a certain magnitude in order to earn that title, and that hasn&

There's a seam of volcanic mountains that runs down the center of the Atlantic, but nothing that resembles a supervolcano. The supervolcano complex under the Pacific is one of the largest known in the solar system, however.

I am. Most models that can be run locally have extraordinarily out of date training data for certain frameworks that predate breaking changes and important features, so their docs and API schemas need to be put into LoRAs.

Please, no. GLP1s leave you worse off than when you started if you stop taking them. Weight is also not necessarily the factor that leads to sleep apnea; I got diagnosed while having a healthy weight in my 30s.
