Fundamentally I think having people pay for a browser is a hard sell. I do think complementary services being sold to fund the browser are a good idea though. E.g. VPN, search, bookmarking service - great. Charge for them, have the money

You aren't wrong, at all, but as mentioned I have run into issues with this in the past. I don't have enough income for the rigmarole Mozilla would put us through, even though I attempted in the past. FWIW in regards to features:

Support MV2, MV3 like Firefox, and also supports "classic" bootstrapped extensions, if they've been updated, which you can randomly find on Github.

For anyone interested in what features there are (I should really have this on an article on the website, but also... how do you market all this? I went for a 'generic' landing page as I assume the average person cares little) Ple

Mozilla have made legal threats in the past about mentioning ANYTHING to do with Firefox. So I steer well clear. The irony(?) being we used to be listed on the Mozilla website :) https://web.archive.org/web/201212292105

While branding System1 an adtech company is correct, its bread and butter [at the time] was search aggregation and in effect contextual advertising (System1 didn't want to deal with PII). The ownership made a lot of sense, and of cours

I might have differed with Brendan Eich on a few matters, but he was a good steward of Firefox in my book. When Mitchell Baker took the reins, Mozilla became rather more heavy-handed towards us - the irony being that Waterfox was once proud

Ah, the client is OSS, that’s good, appreciate the effort on reproducibility - I know how tough that is. In theory I suppose that makes running one of the nodes less of an issue. Would you guys ever be open to hosting a relay for other part

When I setup the DNS over Oblivious HTTP service for Waterfox, one of the most important parts of our setup was that each step was controlled by a different entity, which was also recommended by Fastly. In our instance it went Client (Water

I use a Azure Key Vault[1], and jsign[2] to do this. You can execute it on any platform that supports Java, so I have Linux builds cross compiling to windows with clang and then sign with jsign: https://github.com/

Related to this is the Buck Bumble[1] theme song[2]: > “That’s the whole point of it, we didn’t want to do sort of boring techno stuff as well, or jungle, so we picked speed garage, it’s funkier than house and garage.”[3] [1]: https:&#x

Parallelisation of compilation for large codebases. For example, an M2 Max with 96GiB of RAM takes about 12 minutes to compile the Waterfox (aka Firefox) codebase from scratch. Any reduction in that time saves a lot of my life over a large

Weirdly enough, JPEG-XL support is actually fairly decent in Firefox already and there were patches developed by the community that work well for things such as color profiles, animation support etc. I’ve had them in Waterfox for a few year

Realistically, compiler flags and config flags have had diminishing returns on Firefox builds for a few years now. Mozilla are very quick to update the toolchain now, compared to before as well as taking care of curated CPU-dispatch where n
