That seems like a lot to me though. You can make many expensive things look not that expensive if you put it in terms of “per American”. It’s just the there are many things and they all add up. E.g can’t you just pay them 1 million and use

Yup. The economy matters A LOT. Perhaps the crowd on Hacker News have stable careers so don't value it quite as much, so we find other things to worry about ;-)

I understand the topic is naturally political, but it would be nice to see discussions not super political bashing Trump vs Clinton and so on. A lot of the comments I see here are pretty subjective, anecdotal and emotional. I really don

I've had uncomfortable experiences. I don't know what would constitute a panic attack exactly. Get some supervision, stay in a safe place away from people. It's a journey. Even the good enlightening trip wasn't really a

50g!? That seems like an insane amount of mushrooms to eat in one dose. Edit: my apologies. I thought it was dry, not wet.

My apologies. It’s not exactly like “take this amount and you will experience this trip”. It’s like how one day you may only have a few drinks of alcohol and yet feel way more drunk than other times you’ve drank a lot more. But to roughly a

I’ve taken mushrooms quite a few times. Sometimes, it’s just been mild and giggling at colors and nature. Pleasant, but just kind of a fun drug. With a moderate dose, you tend to be introspective and consider your own life and relationships

Ok then. Personally I don’t like it and I suspect a lot of others don’t appreciate it either though. I think it also sabotages your own overall point because half the audience will just roll their eyes at the biased emotive language, rather

I assume you would appreciate the loaded language if it was biased against your side then.

It’s not so much the factual inaccuracy as the loaded language. One can factually describe Trump in a positive light and Clinton in a negative light. It’s needlessly emotive and doesn’t belong on HN in my opinion.

I agree the electoral college is not as good as a general public vote, however one counterargument to "side A won more votes than side B!" is that, both sides knew the rules ahead of time so if the rules were a general vote, then

Roughly speaking, if a company doesn’t pay a dividend, it reinvests the profits in itself which compounds its own stock price. You get the benefits of compounding stock prices that way. I think we are arguing over semantics.

Stocks don’t need to pay out dividends for compound growth. Your last sentence is basically: “betting on compound growth is not the same as compound growth”. Yes ok, but a little pedantic imo. Over hundred years of evidence suggests betting
