Isolated communities always end up that way. Whether it is the Amish or some 1970s hippie cult.

You don't solve a bankrun you prevent it from happening. It's like nuclear war- the only winning move is not to play.

Philips knew that they couldn't compete with LG or Samsung. Nobody else could. Getting out of electronics was the right decision.

"well, everyone else uses SVB you should too" Which is not even true because it is a tiny no name bank. Prior to this debacle if you asked an American to name a bank nobody would have said SVB.

There is no race to the bottom every airliner has to follow the same safety regulations. And people have the freedom to decide for themselves what they consider torture. I remember when I was young I used to spend the last 24 hours of a vac

This is not about summer jobs stocking Walmart shelves. They want to put them into construction and meat packing plants.

If America practised capitalism they would accept the free labour market and start paying people more. Businesses that can't survive paying the market rate to compete for labour should go out of business.

Gamefaqs. Someone typed out the entire script of Deus Ex. For free. Don't fuck with gamers they are a force beyond human comprehension.

This would be true IF websites ran just enough ads to keep the lights on. But no you can make PROFIT with ads. Which gave us BuzzFeed.

Which is why you should always bank at a "too big to fail" institution. Why America has 4000 banks is beyond me. In my country they all consolidated in the 60s and 70s into a half a dozen giants.

Couple of years ago I had to do some budget downsizing. Stopped buying bottled water- tap water is so good here that it made no logical sense to buy Evian anyway. Just put water in a caraf and throw it in the fridge and presto money saved.

I remember a nice Obama quote "the buck stops with me". If you get the big pay check for leadership it is your responsibility when shit goes bad. Sadly about the worst consequence a failed CEO has is that he/she doesn't

I live in a country with socialised medicine and wanted to give some counterpoints to "the grass is always greener in socialist utopia". 1 yes they scam boomers. An actual funded pension system means boomers are the richest people

I was in a restaurant and somebody asked me: how much do you want to tip? I just stood there in total silence trying to process the horror. You can come to the Netherlands and never learn the language but there are lines a man cannot cross.

Always pisses me of when normal citizens with jobs can't make ends meet. We're going back to the 19th century. Time to dust of Das Kapital.

I'd go further and say it isn't the job of Western countries to fix corruption. If Putin wants to fleece his people he can take his billions to a European bank.

Something strange happened to America. They were on the exact same socialist trajectory as the rest of the world but it went all wrong. And they are using their considerable superpower resources to drag the rest of us down with them.
