Way to talk down to people. I use PHP as my main language for web development, but also am a frequent C user. I have done projects in C# and Python. While I like C# and Python - actually for scripting I tend to go for Python rather than PHP

There is no business advantages at using Python/Rails over PHP. (and vice versa) You should only use the technology that suits your company the best (in terms of needs and knowledge -never EVER start a company based on a tech you don't unde

It's something I find interesting. PHP "haters" keep pointing at flaws, yet in almost 10years of doing PHP, the only thing that really ever annoyed me is the string and array parameters order... And I've done a wide range of thing in PHP, i

Good to know other people want to share about successful scaling with PHP. On the downside, I have a book cooking on the same exact subject, with release planned September (self-publish, about 80% done), but now not sure if it's worth conti

As someone who used to work over there (Pornhub, Youporn, ...), it is not a question of legacy. If you use PHP the way it's meant to be used, you are not gonna have any surprise, and it'll run faster than the alternatives (or close too), fo

This. If you want some "real PHP", look into the MicroPHP manifesto ( http://microphp.org ) and the libraries/frameworks associated. I, as a heavy PHP user, do not like the path taken by frameworks such as ZF or Symfony. It goes against PHP

Have you looked into the LUA scripting option for Redis? Allows for some processing to happen on the server side, and it's quite powerful.

Finding hosting for PHP is not hard. If you like Heroku, check out PhpFog.com or Orchestra.io. It's like magic too. "PHP is not a good language" what is a good language? To take your example, I do enjoy the feel of PHP, it feels natural to

Relevant XKCD : http://xkcd.com/927/ While I do agree that there is a need for a real packaging system for PHP, I don't think Composer/Packagist is the answer. Packaging is a real hard "exercise", I've dabbled with it, and it's certainly
