The WP7 app ecosystem is pretty all encompassing. It has over 100k apps and you can find anything you want in there. It is missing some big names like instagram, but the fact that many of the major app names have decided to adopt WP7 should

I don't think so, Windows is a well known brand. The average consumer won't be oblivious to them, I can understand it taking time for my grandmother to learn about it, but for people who actively use technology daily, they'll learn a lot ab

"get a tablet with so many unknowns?" There will be 0 unknowns a month after they get released. There are unknowns now because it is an unreleased product. Using that as a point against the success of the system is moronic.

Is that so terrible of a solution though? I'd wager to say that most Win 8 devices will be touch devices (my bet is people aren't going to flock to upgrading their Win 7 machines). So the people who don't have touch machines are the only on

This is truth and is pretty much exactly the reasoning behind the shared core/kernel/graphics stack/etc.

Exciting times. My predictions: Developers download it on August 15th and we'll see many reviews like we've seen about the RP. Some will hate it, some will love it. The fact that it's going to be much less buggy than RP will help a lot. The

I really don't see it happening ever. I have a lot of trouble seeing Linux distros be used by actual everyday consumers. I mean, it'd be cool if it happened, but the quality just isn't there.

Does the URL really matter that much? I agree it's not unimportant, but I don't think it's a big deal. The program itself is much more important

They're not terrible by themselves, but relative to Apple's older ad campaigns, they're awful.

Yeah this is an interesting discussion. I usually stand on the side of one or two features done really well at first, then adding more as time goes on and needs arise, but always make these less used features more hidden in the UI. However

The fact that it's RTMing in 2 weeks is irrelevant. What you're looking at (the release preview) was released May 31st, 2012. That means that before RTM hits, there will have been 2 months and a week or twos work put into it. While I think

Pretty much everything the article complained about were clearly bugs. Yes, its buggy. Welcome to the world of pre-release software, the world I live in on a daily basis. Things tend to suck. But that's expected. The release preview was rel

They're not going for upgrades on already existing windows customers computers, the main goal is to sell new tablets and touch enabled laptops and all in ones. There was a section of WPC 2012 where they showed off some of the new OEM device

So I posted an app in the market place that got rejected the first time because I didn't include a privacy policy. I forget how much detail was included in the feedback when they told me this but it didn't take long for me to fix it and res

They knew about the plans when they even signed the deal. They sold a decent bit of phones and made a good name for themselves with WP7, with WP8 it looks like they're gonna release a bunch of new phones and go all in.

As a returning Microsoft intern I will definitely endorse this article. I love this place, I was in Windows last summer and I'm in Windows Phone this summer and it's a very exciting time to be here.
