Yep. At the scale they are starting at, they can micromanage the control a bit, and team up with a company like ASUS to build the hardware. Without having to embed a display on the device, I really don't find the price point of $100 outrag

Beyond that, Apple's minimalist design isn't manufactured by Apple -- so they tool up companies all over the world to make these Intel based 24" / 27" all in one computers. Obviously when Visio goes to a company that already built them for

I am going to argue Apple is an innovator. Invention isn't the only form of innovation. in·no·vate/ˈinəˌvāt/ Verb: Make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products. Apple has for the last few years

SMP Erlang DOES use threads, it then uses green-processes and a custom scheduler to schedule processes fairly and preemptively across those threads. It doesn't use like 1 thread per process, but threads are a key component of how it works.

"Why do we have two separate words for them?" ... did you just ask Hacker News why synonyms exist? Why does this one bother you more than ire versus anger or common versus ordinary?

I define companies by WHAT MAKES THEM MONEY. I can't tell if people are pedantic or dense. Apple makes money by selling hardware. Microsoft makes money by selling software. Google makes money by selling ads. Amazon makes money by sellin

It can't even really be accomplished well on OS-X yet. But I am delighted Apple is going for it, because the application will catch up. Right now it works really well with Apple's font render engine, and not much else. But application dev

Depends how you define it. But, X-Box (the original) was a PIII + Nvidia + Other PC Hardware... none of it made by Microsoft. The 360 I give them more credit with, because they worked closer with partners and got off the WinTel brand... op

Microsoft isn't a hardware company. Apple's supply chain dominance is what brought this to market. Microsoft sells some rebranded hardware products (manufactured and designed by Samsung, Acer, IBM, ATI, Nvidia and Asus)... but it makes PRO

My current rig is a last gen Mac Pro 12 core with 128GB of memory from OWC and 4x2TB in raid. I was hoping to upgrade to a box that could support more memory (the 128GB is already over the official spec, but well tested) ... but just meh.
