Security issues? Yes, there were 0days after 0days. Adobe kept pushing updates, but users were often lagging behind. Researchers continually found new vulnerabilities. Browsers weren't as sandboxed and hardened as they are today, and f

Also, waiting for IP is a huge bar for entry. Suppose you just want a soft core for a one-off FPGA project. RISC-V is a no-brainer if you need to run complex stuff like a Linux kernel. There's myriad of projects to pick from on GitHub.

x86_64 is much harder to implement though. The superiority of the ecosystem is debatable. I guess you mostly have proprietary software in mind? (including Microsoft Windows). That will improve with time.

Systemd would be at odds with config.scm's declarative approach to system management here. I mean, it could work, but part of Guix's appeal is using the same language (scheme) for managing all aspects of the system. I admit that&#

I haven't used ZFS, but you can easily use NFS to share a filesystem from a central (ZFS) "file server". NFS works very well over wireguard, as wireguard gives you "trusted" source IPs, and NFS uses that to check pe

I agree that the proposed solution has many flaws, and that PAKE is much more promising than any plain password-based scheme. As another commenter pointed out, OPAQUE is very interesting. I just wish browsers natively supported that authent

Ultra-Wideband is starting to make its appearance in some customer-level products, such as airtags. I am not sure if interference would be an issue if tracking multiple object, but the technology seems like a good fit! From a simple search,

GPS-RTK is not that hard or expensive: https://docs.centipede.fr/ (in French). https://docs.centipede.fr/docs/make_rover/rover_v5_1.html lists a €180 GPS module, which is not dirt-cheap, but still

To put it bluntly, we use R,G,B because those are the photoreceptors in our eyes. Our R,G,B LEDs are tuned for maximum effectiveness on our photoreceptor cells [1]. Red photoreceptors are probably not very useful for sea fish as red is easi

Contrarian post :) Firstly, you don't really mention when the golden age of tech is for you . The answer can be quite different depending on the technological niche you are thinking of[1]. I'd argue that it's not over yet,

TBH, "In a browser" (like here) is pretty different from "on the Internet" (like google docs). Except that if someone was to make slight changes to the hosted application, it could leak everything.

Unfortunately web browser, web apps and websockets can only use a few ports, so if you run a service that you later want to interoperate with a web app of some sort, you don't really have a choice. In a way, ports are already becoming
