GPT-4 is a scary improvement over 3.5, especially for handling code. It will be the literal definition of awesome when these models get a large enough context space to hold a small-medium sized codebase. I've been playing around with i

Article was paywalled for me, but in general Plastic does not decay so for products that are essentially consumables it's better if it doesn't stay and pollute the environment.

I wonder if material color was actually a design consideration? Or if material lifespan was more important? Either way, very interseting project to get to work on, designing such a station.

Black to save on heating? During a polar night it gets so dark that once you’re out of flashlight range it doesn’t matter. The issue is the wind blown snow reducing visibility.

With these type of operations it becomes a bit semantic and depends entirely on how you define costs and over what timespan. You have to ship it there via tanker, store at McMurdo, and ship across the ice on special purpose vehicles. If you

My point is mainly that there are plenty of options available to stabilize grid prices that are way cheaper than using EV's. Europes energy crisis is temporary, over time the price fluctuations will go down.

This can be done by using a smart AC charger. In europe (At least) the company Easee makes AC chargeres that are WiFi / 4G enabled. In Sweden (And Norway) you can connect them to a service like Tibber, which allows you to automatically

There are many estimates for the generation cost on wikipedia, at least the IPCC one does not try to estimate what the costs of the emissions would be. And the price of the battery does obviously not include the generation costs of the ener

Unless the $/kwh or lifecycle count of EV batteries change significantly, using them as a grid-scale storage is just not financially feasible. E.g. a NMC battery has a lifespan of around ~2000 cycles, a model S 90 D has a 90 kWh batter

Most people not in the Nordics / Germany / Switzerland would most likely see way more energy savings per year by simply spending the money used to install a waste water energy recovery system to instead just insulate their house.
