I'd be surprised if the ratios matched up exactly. That'd mean the only factor dictating the level of obesity is food culture. Not likely. I'm sure Japan has a variety of unhealthy foods, I don't see how that matters. Th

Maybe any automaker could take liability too, maybe not. It's all just words in the wind until they actually do it. Mercedes put their money where their mouth is and I respect them for it. It's the opposite of bullshit.

The bold, bold bet of building time proven solutions instead of hoping we'll come up with better tech just in the nick of time. Don't build nuclear, don't build rail, just cross your fingers and pray we'll solve mass ene

Completely wrong. Every skill, no matter how useless, generalizes. Competitive team games are the best examples. Playing them well requires internalizing the concepts of probability, teamwork, mindset, efficiency, dealing with failure, etc.

The reverse of that adage holds even truer - absence of evidence is not evidence of existence.

I think the strongest argument for evolution is it's the simplest approach that could possibly work. Or, using backward reasoning, what would be the simplest possible way to achieve life as complex as a human? Evolution.

People are products of their environment. What are the chances a child born to christian parents will be a christian vs a buddhist? Why as the access to knowledge has been increasing more and more people are becoming non-believers? Why have

To clarify the bit about coercion: "SQLite attempts to coerce the data into the appropriate type using the usual affinity rules, as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle all do."

You're comparing the cost of only self driving tech vs the cost of the entire rail infrastructure. • Underground parking for 600 cars? 35 million euro - https://youtu.be/mXLqrMljdfU?t=690 • Rebuilding a highway? Half o

Okay, what's the timescale for self-driving cars? That's right, it's unknown but most likely decades away. Meanwhile, you could sit down and work out a public transport infra plan using current tech with exact timelines toda

There's no need to imagine, what you're describing already exists in Europe. We already know how to do this with today's tech, no need to wait for anything. It's as simple as public transport + bicycles + dense mixed use

Self-driving is a distraction from the fundamentally unsustainable car-centric world we've built. Would it be nice to have? Sure. Will it solve the underlying problems? No. All countries should be moving towards what the Netherlands is

Isn't a "stroad" just a name for a street designed like a road? Is it inherently a negative word or does it just seem that way due to the anti-car context in which it typically appears?
