I hope my tone doesn't come across as rude or too argumentative, but I think your understanding is a bit inaccurate. > it's under your control to find a host that doesn't have these issues All hosts will have these issues,

How are crashes under your control? Again they aren't talking about uncaught exceptions, but crashes. So maybe the server gets unplugged, the network disconnects, etc.

That is the simple, but unreliable way to fix the issue. If your python process crashes or is killed between sending the commit and enqueueing the job, the job will never be enqueued. A possible solution to this is to use a "transactio

I can't speak for how they do it, but when your worker polls the table and finds no rows, you will sleep. While sleeping, you can also LISTEN on a channel (and if you get a message, you abort your sleep). Then, whenever you write a new

I don't think that link supports your comment. It says that vertical slices (at least as described by that article) are generally unrealistic in game dev.

Not exactly fossil fuel heat, but recently I was staying at a place that had a wood burning furnace which is explicitly designed to work even if the power goes out. The hot air naturally rises and pressurizes the vents slightly, and the onl

I agree with pretty much everything the author said. I'll also add that one of my biggest complaints is that you can't use typescript inside the "markup section" (eg. for type casts or null assertions). I still don'

I agree completely. And that's what I liked about this article: it taught me what effects aren't for. I had been using most of the anti patterns in the article (especially using effects to sync props and state with each other), an

Awesome overview, stuff like this is often hard for newcomers to find/figure out. I'm sure it's in the docs somewhere but people often miss it. One nitpick: environment vars don't have to be capitalized. You can do Conne

The idea I've seen repeated here a lot is to aim for strong consistency internal to your system, even though the real world/things external to your system will be eventually consistent. So the inventory <-> create order inte

I see what you mean, but with ACID you can tell the user right away if the order was successfully placed. With eventual consistency you don't know how long it'll take so you either show them a loading spinner that takes an indeter

How can eventual consistency handle the inventory use case as well as an ACID system? You can't tell the user "your order is placed successfully" and then later tell them "actually no, it was out of stock".

In our k8s clusters we generally set both requests and limits on CPU and memory. We haven't noticed many problems, except for when some apps didn't even have CPU requests and dominated all the CPU on a cluster (which didn't e
