Huh? Fcitx and IBus both worked on GNOME and KDE as far as I'm aware. Now, Fcitx using QT and IBus using GTK helps them feel more native on KDE and GNOME respectively, but they would both work .

I do the same, but with mu/mu4e in Emacs. Not having to open a browser to read email also helps with staying focused for me.

Agreed. I was about to get up in arms about license violations and rugpulls, but this is neither. The code is still free and open source, just the builds are up for sale. This is literally a business model encouraged by the FSF. I hope

Me personally, I prefer these more functional (and more succinct) expressions. For loops are overly verbose, and not as composable. But then again, I'm a Lisp programmer.

Ruby does a pretty good job, with `system` and backticks. The FileUtils module actually defines some nice helpers like `mv`, `cp` and `ln_s`. So you can do `cp "/tmp/a.txt", filename`. And you can get a list of files

I can run my everyday software stack (Emacs + Firefox + Dino) on my 3 GB RAM Pinephone. It's not as fast as my 8 GB laptop, but that's partly the CPU too. Hope this makes you feel better.

Makes me glad I've always avoided doing my work on web platforms. When we used to have to make presentations in Google Slides I used to do them in Org-mode, then export to Sheets. I still have all those assignments sitting on my disk
