I ran an instance of this for about a year. It is super cool and pretty easy to manage. It was more than I needed - I was using it as just a photo backup and then a way to share photo collections with people - and pretty expensive to run on

I know car software is an afterthought for companies because most consumers don't make their car buying decisions based on how good the software is, but if any company made truly intuitive car software, I would be won as a customer.

Wow, another AI utopian vision from Silicon Valley that glosses over the real-world consequences. Khosla's all too convenient optimism fails to confront the harsh reality: private companies hoarding AI technology, reaping insane profit

I stopped using it not long after he took over, not because of any principled objection just because how much crap I had to sort through to get to anything worthwhile had greatly increased.

Accountability would be the CEOs of these companies stepping down after they've made enough mistakes (both hiring too much and then not reaching growth targets). As usual workers get screwed and management coasts on unaffected.

After reading the comments in this thread it is clear that people are not current with how ECT is administered in the modern era. 1. You are under general anesthesia 2. The dosage of electricity is very low when compared to how it was done

I had ECT and it was absolutely life changing. Only thing that ever worked for me. Mild headaches with each treatment and my memories of the time of my treatment is fuzzy. But I think we probably should be investigating why it works so well

There are some US states with similar provisions (FL I think is one) but it isn't really enforced.

I generally hate swag, but my company gave me a coffee mug that is the best mug I've ever used.

Cost of college is not the major cost of kids. Daycare can be in excess of 2,000/month.

The only person to be upset at is the one who didn't put access control on the site. That was a publically available endpoint. The better analogy is putting something private on a public bulletin board and being mad if someone read som

The politicization of COVID was the final straw for. me. I have no more faith in humans in a collective sense. I don't see how we can expect democracy to work when people are willfully ignorant of their world and unwilling to do the wo

I don't drink because of a medication I take and I miss beer with certain types of food. For so long the best available was beer flavored water. It makes me so happy that I now have a wide range to choose from.

This seems like an answer from someone who filters the industry through Hacker News. Java's market share is still huge. Clojure never really had a big market share and Ruby is still very popular.

No, that is ridiculous. Missals made in the US are used to fight illegal wars in the middle east and sold to dictators committing genocide. Stop drinking the nationalism kool-aide, we aren't the good guys.

I think it is time for tech workers to force their companies to pursue an agenda that is in-line with the worker's ethics. We are highly paid, we are also highly valuable to the US economy. If we can effectively unionize - we can use
