In a single database, I don't think I've ever exceeded 50 tables. If a project of mine grew beyond that amount of complexity, it would likely make sense to refactor it into several/many databases.

In my experience: C++ is a rarified language in much of the startup world. Mobile devs can't use it in an app (with a few notable exceptions), front-end web devs can't use it in the browser, and backend devs are rarely working on

I understand the manager's frustration. But, I think taking that kind of action sets a dangerous precedent. IMHO, no matter how hard criticism may be to hear, (especially when it is entitled and baseless), you still want to encourage a

Do you know any of the same people? Perhaps asking a mutual friend to reach out (and at least confirm that he's not handling a family emergency right now) might be in order.

It really depends on the kind of product you're building. In certain situations, non-technical co-founders will have more work on their plate than the engineers. In other situations, they'll have very little to do. It sounds like

I try to log most errors and exceptions, and send them to a log-management tool. I use Loggly (they make it easy to run reports or get automated notifications based on error-type) but have heard good things about Splunk as well. To monitor

The two authors that have helped me the most are Dave Ramsey and Suze Orman. They disagree about some things: Dave hates credit, doesn't think you need a credit score. Suze suggests ways to boost your credit score, and thinks that'

Generally speaking: You need someone you trust, who is at (or above) the level you're hiring for, to screen candidates for you. Just put them in the same room together and let them have a conversation for an hour or two. A non-technic

I don't think you have to give it up entirely if you're concerned about the impact. Purchasing carbon-offsets are also a meaningful way to (arguably) help reduce your footprint if you find yourself flying a lot.

Life is important in your 20s. If you max-out the time you're working, you'll miss some of the best parts of life. You're only young once.

I believe you're describing what is typically referred to as an "append only" datastore. The biggest-name in the game is Google BigQuery. From their docs: "BigQuery tables are append-only. The query language does not cu

Strictly speaking, the closest thing to a "team lead" would be the ScrumMaster. In a scrum, all team-members are just "developers", there's no hierarchy or differentiation in status between them. The ScrumMaster is

I think the RSA algorithm is fascinating, just because of the impact it has had on the industry. Imagine a world without public-key encryption. Crazy right? (Obviously there would be other ways to achieve public-key encryption if RSA had n

In my experience, the code monolith doesn't need to be utopian/pristine in order to refactor to microservices, but it does need one thing: each (potential) microsevice MUST own it's own datastore. If I have a widgets service,
