Figuratively speaking. "facebook steals, facebook doesn't care about people, all facebook cares is money" is stretching it a bit for what should essentially have been "facebook makes a mistake involving money and neglects to correct it".

No one says he's not allowed to be upset, Facebook DID do a mistake here, and it is legitimate to be angry about it. But calling names and posting a public tantrum about it is not the way to get it fixed; Facebook is not "stealing", they ju

He's indeed overreacting. Apparently that works though, because it made it to the front page.

It's fun. If you can find joy in coding, you would most likely enjoy discussing said code with others, getting feedback, learning about it, improving it, etc. Open sourcing code makes all this possible and easy, and when there are no ulteri

"Hey Internet, I know you don't like us, but just so you know, you are wrong about your complains, and we are doing just fine" Well, what a brilliant piece of PR there.

I was wondering what is this doing on the front page again. I guess HNers can never get enough of discussing the virtues of Vim :-)

...unless you want to implement some sort of server-side automated correcting that improves bad quality comments for instance. Rare, and possibly not very practical, but I've seen attempts at it here and there.

As soon as Google realizes they still have it online, probably. I'd be willing to bet the reason it's still alive is that they plain and simply forgot about it.

I keep wondering whether I should be buying bitcoins now, but I have mixed feelings about it. I'm pretty sure its value will continue going up for a while, but I guess I'm still skeptical.

Well, he has a point, but I wouldn't call that visionary; many people have suggested before the possibility of a future where an important part the connected population never used a PC before and rely exclusively on their smartphones. And u

IMHO, there are plenty alternatives out there for those who have facebook fatigue and are looking for something simpler, e.g. Path or even Google+. If it's beautifully executed it might have its room to breathe, but I think you'll struggl

Looks interesting, but I don't really see it taking off. I just can't picture normal people thinking "wow, this is just what I needed, I'm so downloading this!"

The problem comes when you realize if you unfollowed everyone who posts unteresting stuff on facebook you would end up with an almost literally empty feed.

But what could possibly accomplish doing this? I can't picture the rationale behind it if it really were the US Govt itself.

This is very immature and very irresponsible IMHO. Poking fun of NK on the internet is only going to aggravate the situation, because I'm very sure NK will end up interpreting it as "US doing", rather than some random individuals.

Not sure about the freedom part, personally ever since starting bootstrapping my startup I feel I don't have time for anything, and when I do, it's hard to justify spending time and/or money on yourself when both things are running against

Baidu, QQ, Tencent, Alibaba... I'm not American though :-) I would argue this isn't a big deal. Sure, many Chinese companies would be very happy to have more brand awareness, but overall it's still working out very nicely for them.

I always imagine this as the average case for everyone buying a new laptop now. I don't know, I really don't want to hate, but I have yet to hear of someone happy with W8 as their main OS.

The number seems to be misreported as someone else mentioned here, but still, you'd be surprised how lazy people can be when it comes to (large) OS updates. There's an enormous amount of friction if what you use already works. This probably

Nope. On SO at least there are lots of folks who amassed hundreds of thousands of reputation merely for being on the site early enough to be able to answer simple and common questions like "how I can remove an array member" and the like.

Forget it, if there was a time when Facebook could have bought Twitter that might have been 4-5 years ago, but that ship sailed for good.

According to TechCrunch the press invitation says "Come see our new home on Android"; if they were to take Amazon's approach I would expect them to omit mentioning Android completely, so I guess this tells something.
