Very interesting. Seeing this I can't help but feel how much more tangible and solid the old Windows interface was looking. I miss buttons that look like buttons and Window edges that are so hard-lined they're easy to grab and vis

It's actually pretty simple/clever. Constructing labeled imagery costs a lot of time and effort. I assume the current approach is to have a bunch of humans (undergrads, most likely) sit through every image and label (color) them:

As mentioned in the post, this has been a long time coming it seems. Whereas in the past I was tempted many times to join a LD weekend, it has been off putting in recent years when seeing the huge amount of entries (both to join and to even

Agreed. Recently set up a 100 user experiment on a beefy server in our research department were I used Guacamole (with RDP) to handle the problem/assumption of participants only having a web-browser. Worked fantastically!

Yup, that might be... though theoretically it might be possible to calibrate this in a more fine tuned manner if you know/have access to the WiFi hot spot/box beforehand.

I don't really get why you need to have a beacon for this though? The Facebook app is already installed and knows your location anyway. Provide businesses with a page to enter the details to be pushed to the phone and then just let the

Well written, but as others have mentioned, this technique is almost as old and well-known as game development itself. However, it's still pretty cool and refreshing to use. See e.g. Notch' Ludum Dare streams where he makes his le
