In my case I tried to work on Windows with some ThinkPad 5ish years ago when I got annoyed of unrealiable docking behaviour on Linux. It turned out it was flaky hardware of firmware on the Lenovo dock and it didn't work appreciably bet

I went through the list of open source licences in my VW ID and was pleasantly surprised that bash-completion is included. So when I gain shell in my car, I should be able to use tab completion! These lists are often quite interesting.

Seconded. 1.44 megabytes is not that much, DSL was very impressive on that storage budget. I wonder how small a Linux system is possible these days, even without any GUI functionality.

I would imagine OpenTTD also has a number of similar "rule tweaks". The OpenTTD engine AFAIK started as a direct reimplementation, but I think that too has evolved quite a bit.

OpenRA – which is open source reimplementation of Red Alert, Dune 2000 and C&C Tiberian Dawn - has solved this by offering to fetch the shareware game and extracting the assets from there. Fully libre distributable assets would offer ev

Is that true though? I think a bit part of the algorithm evolution is to combat undesirable forms of SEO. I would rolling back the algorithm to some older generation would make the results quite spammy.

That's right, though deduplication feature is not the way to do it. The VM template would be a zvol, which is a block device backed by the lower levels of ZFS, and it would be cloned to a new zvol for each VM. Alternatively, if image f

Certainly it makes sense to not have deep copies of VM base images, but the deduplication is not the right way to do it in ZFS. Instead, you can clone the base image and before changes it will take almost no space at all. This is thanks to

Yes, yes it is. My understanding is that it used to be spoken in a way closer to the written form, but it has drifted. And then there are all the loan words that retain at least some of their original pronunciation. Here's a fun clip a

Element X is a totally new implementation, done in Rust. It's fast and nice but for now some features are missing compared to the old one.

You double the voltage and halve the resistance. With longer cables you can invest more in more expensive stuff at the ends to deal with the high voltage.

With Spotify subcription hikes, one could buy a lot of music. Does a decent MP3 or FLAC store exists nowadays? For some specific albums it's nice to have the physical object of a CD, but in general I'd rather not buy the plastic d

The electric motor is at least four times more economical in converting the stored energy into motion, so make it four battery swaps. Still bad for many uses, but not quite 16-fold.

While that's technically correct (the best kind of correct!), I doubt a lot of natgas heatpumps are being installed in homes at the moment. I suppose the real economics are going to be better, as you probably need to make gas more expe

Are heat pumps economical heating sources in Germany? Power there seems very expensive and natgas cheap. No wonder if there's pushback if you have to do expensive renovation and you don't even end up with lower operational expense

For some fringe use cases one could drop a readily installed (and defragmented!) OS image to the tape and boot it up. I've only had some floppy tape drives and parallel-port attached Ditto. They didn't support random access, or at

Windows on ARM is a direct descendant of Windows RT, so I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with the latter. But it's a good to hear that the bootloader lock is no longer mandated.
