I'd imagine they'd prioritize lowering the barrier of creating .net webapps over Azure success. Azure is just one service but .net success is key part of their strategy.

People, your domain ideas are excellent but instead of posting them here for all squatters to take, please just register the darn domains. It's only couple of bucks after all.

Something like that was my initial thought. However, you have to remember that there is massive amount of very notable things going on and data shown. As brazzy pointed out, the stall warning was as prominent as possible and still was prett

This would be true if rockets actually never exploded. But it seems to me they actually do, and that's why it's useful to test very unfortunate scenarios as well. It's not like they design jet engines' blades to come loose and cause destruc

I don't know about that. Certainly there are large differences under the hood, but isn't Chrome OS just supposed to run browser apps really well? I don't think that's a very hard compatibility measure for Android to match.

That is probably not in Google's hands to change. It's the same with the vendor-supplied GPU drivers in desktop Linux as well.

There already is a lot of energy-heavy industry here in the Nordics: paper and steel mills, nuclear power, etc. Having a couple megawatts worth of datacenters is really really minor thing.

My guess is that most of the savings come from the auto-away feature that's apparently backed by some sensors (motion detection?). I don't doubt that auto-away could save energy as most people probably don't either care or remember to adjus

With all these great minds from our field passing away, I'm beginning to think we should pause for a moment and think what we could do to thank all those legendary computing figures still with us? Knuth, Kernighan and Woz come to mind, cert

Well, probably most of us don't see their utility bills as a problem per se but wouldn't mind 50% reduction. And Nest claims to deliver that. Certainly that claim is to be taken with a grain of salt but I don't think that it's a bad idea. E

I'd say in most cases UTF-8 is already used. Of course this depends on the source of the text.

Certainly, but the practical privacy implications are probably similar. In case of a stolen phone, the thief has access to all the files in both of these cases. Sure it would be cool if Dropbox wouldn't have any access to our files, but I d

We've been told they do encrypt files internally. I don't think there is any usable way to have users manage their keys by themselves. Who wants to input large encryption keys to their mobile phone every time they want to use Dropbox? And i

I'd think it's a deliberate design choice having it this way. If you think about it, paying only for actually used space would mean a lot smaller income for the company. Maybe it would also erode the magic in it - people would start thinkin

Of course if they're profitable, with that kind of user base they could keep growing organically. Perhaps they see some potential strategic investments that would give them lasting competitive edge, and that need big money.

I beg to differ. Jännite has the same word base as "jännitys", which translates to tension or suspension. And that is a natural concept that is related to voltage and thus helps internalize the concept.

The point (of GPL) is not that new community has to form around this released source, nor that the consumers having bought devices using GPL software would be able to recreate them with their own software modifications. The point is that fo

Well, since a lot of Windows software runs on .net framework's CLR (VM with a bytecode interpreter not unlike the Java VM), a lot of legacy apps actually should run just fine on ARM.

It's not that simple. One would think that 3.x series is the current one, but on the other hand, there has been at least one major release in 2.x series after the release of 3.0.
