I wonder what are they going to do with the money. Build datacenters of their own? I hope they don't bloat their service with some expensively developed value-add stuff that nobody wants, but are force-fed nevertheless. One would think they

All the calls are P2P, and if the peers cannot connect directly, the calls are routed through someone else's computer that's called a supernode. Pretty much none of the actual VoIP traffic touches Skype's servers.

Whoah, that was fast! Of course WebOS uses Linux kernel as well, so no need for driver porting and such. Still, impressive feat.

Out of curiosity: what operating system does automatically queue separately initiated copy operations? Wouldn't it be quite confusing if some copy operation just wouldn't start at all before some other - possibly very time consuming - opera

Considering that Samsung seems to like CyanogenMod sending them devices and all that, I wouldn't think it's impossible he'll be able to contribute to CM on company hours.

Nokia is way too big compared to the Finnish state to be bailed out by the government anyway. Nevertheless, Nokia gets Finland's biggest subsidies anyway for R&D and such.

My understanding of the situation has been that most of the FaceTime technology is indeed in the open just because they mostly used already existing technology. What is not in the open is the cryptographic key that is used to sign all the F

Maybe some heavy logging in this field test phase could explain it? Indeed 60TB sounds like very little. I thought Google would use their GFS system to back this kind of things so the disk space wouldn't be an issue. What do I know.

It's pretty much same story with Nokia's devices, older Windows Mobiles, etc. It's not that Apple invented smartphone, they just made it so that normal people could and even wanted to use them. This of course blows the minds of us geeks as

I haven't read the bill, but does it really require court orders to be shown? For what I've gathered is typical for this kind of legislation, private companies get privileges to send some kind of takedown notices (see DMCA) to the others. I

For what I understood, the protocols are open, but you can't join in the network without a private key signed by Apple :). It seems to use fairly standard protocols though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FaceTime#Standards

You have to appreciate though, that $50 is still a modest price if the service is as good as it claims. Just look at domain squatter prices, you get pretty much nothing with $50.
