It's a good practice to use LVM there between disk partitions and volumes. It has negligible performance implications but makes things very flexible when you need to resize volumes or add space. You also gain reliable snapshotting from

I think the possibility of fixing existing hardware in bufferbloat project was always limited at best. What can happen, though, is that good research results would find their way to vendors. Then, slowly, the issues would be fixed in new fi

Biomass, according to IEA [1], is 10% of global primary energy production. It might not contribute lot in the US, but for example here in Finland, wood biomass accounts for one quarter of all the primary energy production. 1: https:/&

Ah, that's interesting to know. Was the development system also RISC/OS, or did some UNIX variant do this as well? I thought in UNIX, tape was always used with utilities such as tar, not mounted as a part of filesystem. That shoul

To my understanding, the idea was to actually type 'sync' thrice, pressing return in between. The time it took to type it in again supposedly allowed previous sync to finish. There's more about it in this old usenet thread:

That might be true for net flows, but it seems that German production does not meet demand at nights very often, as per these statistics: https://www.energy-charts.de/power.htm . I do think that situation will get worse wit

Pretty remarkable growth in PV! I do remember that Germany already had quite a bit of wind generators in the early 2000s, yet they seemed to have generated around the same amount of energy as the PV capacity of today. And that's been m

You can only write once to every block, then you have to erase it completely before reusing. This causes so-called write amplification, in the extreme meaning that changing one bit requires erasure and rewrite for the whole 4K block. See he

In many if not most vehicles, not replacing belts after their specified age is risking serious damage to the engine. Still I agree that the official branded service is often a ripoff.
