Absolutely, I do agree this question is about a permissive development platform. And that's the whole point, I think. As for the second points, I don't recognize what you're describing. What I can say is that I don't consider letting an app

But apparently, having Adobe dictating the very same thing is fine, then?

I think reference and other kinds of docs will be one way in which the iPad will work better than a netbook for a lot of the power user crowd. Having docs on the netbook isn't quite the same thing.

They did start this checking relatively late in the game however, and I seem to remember it giving rise to a number of outraged developer stories on the web.

They're undoubtedly changing the language in the developer TOS, that is of course undisputable. =) However, when introducing the iPhone SDK, they clearly said (about XCode) "This is where you'll be developing all your apps." I'm saying you

Hm, nope. I'm explicitly saying work with Apple stuff out of conviction, rather than a sense of duty. And I'm saying that Apple has a point in supporting the faithful, as in the people who are convinced this platform is the one they want to

I'd say that now that Apple has plenty of volume in the app store, they're focusing more on quality. I imagine they want to implement higher standards at a rate that still makes the number of apps grow. Like when they removed a bunch of bas

I would add Support Engineers along with the devs in that list. I was an AASE back in the late 90s, and working with Apple behind the scenes in the retail chain was quite the different experience than being an end user. Of course, I firmly

I'd say that for most people, cloning Rails isn't an option if the devs won't put it in there. Having access to code is the same thing as being able to implement new stuff in the product for a relatively small amount of users or even develo

It's fascinating. This is the way I look at them, as being on the side of people who agree with Apple on this one. #1: Don't agree. Apple has 180,000 apps in their App store, maybe a good time to remove incentives for a new influx of non-pr

Adding support for attaching an optional component is hardly the same as having a device where said component always is available.

I don't agree that iPhone development isn't open. There are free tools and free documentation readily available, albeit not for all platforms. This is of course no different than many other developer environments, such as the tools for Wind

Isn't it intuitive that browsers, which for the most part are available for several different operating systems, is a separate market from the operating system itself? Seem like two different markets to me. Of course, on the iPhone there is

I don't think Apple would, or even could ban anything of the sort. I think they want people to develop for iPhone first, and if you want to automatically convert that code to Android and get the cross-platform inferior experience there, the

Still, it would be interesting with connections to real-life applications. I was hoping to figure out a few practical ways of using more of my nginx spare cycles. I'm sure there's a ton of cool stuff one could actually use this for, but I'm

In what way does MonoTouch clearly contribute to the user experience on the platform? An argument I started contemplating after reading the article is that there are a lot of non-iPhones out there with a physical keyboard, for instance. I c

The problem with cross-development tools is that the people using them tend to focus on the app working on all the supported platforms, making it effectively using the lowest common denominator. If Apple releases a new API not available in

I doubt we'll see Firefox using Grand Central Dispatch, OpenCL, Core Data or any other of a number of APIs available for the Mac platform anytime soon. Because even if Firefox pretends to really well, first-class citizen of Mac OS X it ain'
