Same people who thought text on translucent glass over text looked good. Who thought that and lots of floating buttons was “getting out of the way of my content”. Who thought sidebars should look like windows with mirrored content under the

Oh I’m sure that’s why they did it. It’s not a good reason. It’s like saying all the food you eat should be beige. Sure it’s more consistent, but at what cost? You lose all the benefits. It’s like Chesterton’s Fence, except it has a big sig

You can’t. “Squircle jail” is a real thing. If your icon isn’t the right shape Apple puts it inside one for you .

So what? Thats not MacOS. I think things are fine on iOS. I don’t mind the rectangles, they fit the grid. That’s how it’s always been. I don’t care about VisionOS. Circles are odd, whatever. But the Mac shouldn’t be forced to lose great des

Why has there been such an obvious repeating price cycle in the last 20 years? Is that due to node sizes or generations or fabs coming online or what?

I’d say they’re subsidizing them with the rest but the computers and iPads don’t sell much compared to phones so that doesn’t make a lot of sense. I happened to buy an iPad 2 days ago, dang I got lucky. I thought they’d announce before the

Given you would have to do all the display stuff through bit math on the framebuffer I imagine interactive use would be horribly slow. You could certainly use it to display other pages of a spreadsheet or something but I don’t think I’d w

That’s right. Whenever a company does something that seems good let’s just start being mean. If they’ve ever done something we don’t like we’re not allowed to celebrate anything. Might send the wrong message.

I think the Sherlock thing was in the OS 8 or OS 9 days whereas Spotlight didn’t come around until sometime in macOS X, maybe 10.4 or so?

The problem is the things going up are core. It’s not like the cameras are getting more expensive, it’s the RAM and processors and storage. Which all the phones have to have. If anything the percentage increase is probably higher on the low

I suspect you’re right, but if they don’t do it until the new stuff is announced I suspect the price hike would drown out the news of all the new stuff. And I really don’t think Apple wants that. If they announce it on, to pick a date, July

I remember seeing reports a few years ago about some TV that would constantly complain if it wasn’t connected. I don’t know what brand it was.

Why should they? It’s an absolute cutthroat business with next to no profit margin. All you gotta do is add an Apple TV and you got everything they would give you. And they make nice margins. Apple seems to have next to no interest in maki

Yeah. But they’re only other choices to just sit on it for a few more years, which point they would need to put different hardware in and it would just increase costs. This may be the best option of a couple of terrible ones.

Plus GPU prices. They absolutely got screwed by their launch timing, unfortunately. And they’re not big enough to negotiate better terms though that probably isn’t really an option right now anyway. I’m not sure I’d want this at $550, but m

Golden Gate has a built in command to run Apple models, don’t know if you need developer tools installed. I think the command might just be `fm` but I’m not sure as I’m not on the beta.

From my read of the article line 3 is a syntax error. All fields in value types are final. No, there’s no way to know from those four lines that will happen, but we have that problem today. If Point was a record the same thing would happe
