Mining was profitable to average users (i.e. not sitting on huge piles of cash) in 2011 and early 2012 probably (source: I owned two 5970s and some 5870s at mined quite a few coins with them). Right now you have to invest much money in ASIC

One (small) thing that isn't correct is that your Bitcoin address is not the public key. It's actually hash of the public key [1], using RIPEMD-160 and SHA-256 algorithms, with a network type and a checksum added to it, then encod

I think the biggest giveaway from this article isn't how do you tell a false memory from the real one (because you can't), but the fact that you can have false memories at all. You can be 100% sure that something happened and at t

This is a nice initiative, but I would like to see the source code of this browser. Without it, I cannot be 100% sure that what Epic devs say is true and it's not an elaborate NSA trick to get our data :). No hard feelings, just in the

As I said, it's hard/close to impossible to reliably achieve this effect for live content. With static content you can use CSS filters to do the blurring.

I've looked into this as well. At the moment it is impossible to achieve this effect in plain HTML/Javascript/CSS. It would probably need some Canvas/WebGL magic to work for live content below the navigation bar, but tha

I do that all the time. I live in Poland and bought hundreds of things from the Internet. Buyer always pays first, and there are no such things as chargebacks. And yet most people are okay with that. Only US people take chargebacks for gran

Quite hard to accept goats and chickens from people living on another continent. With Bitcoin it's possible, fast and costs pennies. Plus, many Bitcoin supporters are buying from merchants that accept Bitcoin just because of that, so w

That's only true if one has access to data at every point in the block chain. If at some point coins go to a private person or company that didn't advertise their address anywhere you're lost. There's no way to know who

As derefr said, there are many third party processors who will handle the Bitcoin for you and wire you the cash directly as soon as you receive Bitcoin payment. Or you can do it yourself and sell your BTC as soon as you get them.

But with Bitcoin, if you trust the merchant/recipient you can opt out of using escrow and transfer the money directly to him. With Paypal it's impossible.

Bitcoin is a protocol that gives you as much privacy as you want. You can use one-time addresses both for sending and receiving, which gives you more privacy than using Paypal or credit cards directly.

People can get tired of other people telling this, but really, they should use Bitcoin. There are several advantages of this: accountability (you can verify with the block chain that they really received your payment), ease of use (utilizin

This is not the first time Paypal did that [1] and it most certainly won't be the last time. That's one of the reasons Bitcoin was invented. I hope that events like this will drive its adoption as a safe alternative for crowd fund

The article doesn't touch one service that can be, and is used regularly by people that want to stay anonymous with Bitcoin and yet cash out - mixing services. You can essentially lose the block chain trail using them. Say you have mon
