As a person who has to use Slack (and its walled garde) every day at work, I miss the simplicity of IRC. I think it probably lost out due to stagnation when it came to features and ease of use for the technically non-inclined. But at least

Agreed. Although the PS2 was fantastic in its own right, the Dreamcast was way ahead of its time (especially with network connectivity) and wasn't given a fair shake.

The saddest part, I think, is that it's not just Google Reader. It's a loss of the content. Google Reader was just the canary in the coal mine. RSS used to be a first class citizen on the web. Remember how browsers used to show th

I agree! I think the reason Wave failed was due to poor marketing. I never truly understood what it was until it had already been killed off. I'll admit it was a hard sell when you boot into a blank page that looks like a word processo

I regret calling out any particular political ideology by name. It's true that not all of the biases baked into the game are conservative with the bias toward mass transit being a great example of liberal bias. I meant those as two sep

I don't believe Jeff Braun was saying SimCity is bad. As he was the CEO of the company that made it at the time, that would be a very foolish move. I think he was trying to deflect criticism directed towards the game. Keep in mind that

While this is certainly clear for media like cartoons, action movies, Mortal Kombat, and Doom, SimCity was touted as an educational tool for children and an accurate model of reality throughout the early to mid 1990s. I was in elementary s

A city building game will be political as it's at least partially simulating politics. However, I regret mentioning Republicans by name. I was trying to warn more broadly about adding the biases of the developers into a seemingly objec

I didn't mean to imply I thought mass transit was a conservative policy. I was trying to highlight another example of bias in the mechanics of the game. I failed to do so.

You're welcome. I can't really recommend any specific books. I don't want my personal views on politics to be the focus, though. I'm just wary of biases hidden in supposedly unbiased algorithms. If that topic interests y

That's good to hear. I think making it open source is already a step in the right direction. City planners who were critical of SimCity at the time often pointed to the game being a black box, so you couldn't examine, much less tw

Please think hard about the design decisions of your game. I grew up with SimCity and later SimCity 2000. It informed many of my young opinions about government policy. But I later came to find out that SimCity wasn't nearly as objecti

I would consider IceCat, but it looks like development has fallen behind Firefox considerably. I mean no offense by this but I consider myself a privacy wonk and that website is a bit too tin foil hat even for me. I think we're in a ba

What browser would you suggest instead? I feel a bit cornered, especially now that literally every alternative is based on chromium.
