Doing it since 1999. Like any hobby, it takes some investment of time and learning. It's not difficult though. Glad to see more people are trying it out from the comments. Fight the Saas Borg assimilation!

In 23 years, I've moved from GoDaddy to Linode to AWS Lightsail. It's not difficult to do this, it's not rocket science, I'm surprised by the amount of FUD being injected into the OP's discussion here on HN overall.

This sounds pretty smart. It'd sound even better if it was made 50/50.

Most of that I agree with, I'm curious why you'd recommend unit tests over integration tests? It seems at odds with the direction of overall software engineering best practices.

This anti-value really bugs me. Too many companie's System Administrators view PC as meaning Windows. People seem to have forgotten there is Linux Desktop in the world as well as other operating systems. TL;DR PC means Personal Compute

It surprises me when people lump Oracle (or AWS for that matter) in with the likes of Microsoft.

Agreed. Not an Oracle fan boy but they didn't deserve to be brought up in the context.

I tried to read the article. It comes across to me as unrequited teen angst culminating in parabolic disharmony; kind of like a Picasso painting.

A lot of people including me (and I'm old, conservative, technical geek) are not actively social. Not being actively social is not at all the same as antisocial. Antisocial is associated with a negative behavioral aspect, a disorder po

We need a Google Search Engine Filter Engine. A site that frontends Google, does a quick peek at the first 10 results and if they are infested with higher than X percentage of Google Ads, exclude them from the results.

"any automated system can be defeated by a sufficiently motivated human" That is exactly the whole problem. SEO SPAM is a symptom. The problem, is that Google went all in on ML and AI. I've been exposed to ML and AI going bac

As JSavageOne said, "What a shame that the wealthiest country can't manage its cities." which is correct. Blaming long term policies on any single politician from decades ago is a disingenuous.
