Apparently lots of people (still) don't know about it but there have been free browser versions of Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote since 2010. They were recently rebranded from Office Web Apps to Office Online, along with

Indeed, I checked before posting my previous comment to verify that autocomplete for "Nudel" was still broken but it's fixed now, at least on the English version. If you go to google.com/?hl=de to force the German versio

Even Google has this problem with some common words. If you type "Nudel", which is German for noodle, into the Google search box, you won't get auto-complete entries presumably because it contains the word "nude". T

You just seriously advocated having someone who stole your laptop locked up in prison for life because of the inconvenience they caused you? Wow.

All your links submitted after the JustFab thing are dead. The two threads discussing that issue also vanished off the front page shortly after they gained traction. Seems like a case of manual censorship?

Yeah the original comment isn't all that wrong technically (though not very nice either). Firefox is my main browser but loading long and heavy pages takes noticeably longer than with Chrome or IE and causes laggy scrolling. Glad they

I used to check page discussions too but noticed that it's usually just a few people arguing back and forth over the same few points, leading you to believe an issue is controversial when in fact it is not – often it's just one pe

It's easy. The price for that pair of boots is displayed very prominently, as you'd expect from a shopping cart page. So why is the price for the recurring monthly subscription only mentioned in the longest paragraph of text on

Windows comes with a dedicated math handwriting input panel. Totally random, all because of their long (failed) push for Tablet PCs. I'm not sure how well it works though.

FYI with OneNote and a digitizer stylus as the Surface Pro comes with you can just write your notes on the screen. OneNote will recognize the handwriting and allow you to search through it etc. Sorry if you already know that, from the way y

Performance-wise the Pro is no different than the MBA or any other ultrabook, so it all comes down to the form factor. For portable (especially lap) use the combination of kickstand + type cover makes typing a bit more difficult than a norm

The version history option is only available for Office files (.docx, .xlsx etc.), plus even if it applied to all files a local backup can still be useful. Forcefully disabling local file history for SkyDrive simply doesn't make any se

Did you read my response? Connect your smartphone to a MiFi (which establishes a mobile data connection and shares it through a WiFi hotspot) if you're concerned about that.

This is pure speculation, neither original nor insightful, and like the parent I'm tired of it. Now, in light of the recent revelations and since we don't know what we don't know, these comments probably can't be labelle

Windows Phone does use all caps titles, though in a more subtle way. In general Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Office 2013/VS 2012 all seem to interpret Metro in a different way, with a surprising amount of inconsistency between WP/

What many people don't seem to know is that the location bar in Explorer (at least on Windows 8) can act as a run dialog, and it supplies the launched program with the current folder as a parameter. So simply hit Ctrl+L and type "

It's easy – all you need is a standard webserver (any VPS will do, check out Low End Box [1] or just use Digital Ocean [2]) and that's it. No need to install or maintain any kind of VPN or proxy software. Just use the following co
