Tye key question is why. For example, if it phones home to check it’s up to date then I’m OK with that. If it’s for advertising then I’m not OK with it.

Same here. AppleCare is just an app insurance policy. Nothing more. I’ve underwritten my own Mac ownership since the very first Intel MacBook Pro and just like you I’ve been just fine.

I don’t think LLMs can easily find errors in their output. There was a recent meme about asking LLMs to draw a wineglass full to the brim with wine. Most really struggle with that instruction. No matter how much you ask them to correct them

Oh yeah I totally agree, it is highly fictional. I mean it's Netflix, so I would definitely treat it as nothing more than entertainment. I'm half surprised they didn't try to work Sutton Hoo's proximity to the Rendlesha

Great show and I thoroughly recommend it but... Everyone in it seems to be doing these dodgy "oo ur" West Country farmer caricature. I can't think of a single character with an actual Suffolk accent. If I compare to The Dig[

I love that we still use Selected Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin like this. I've done it myself when buying hifi equipment. The reason it's funny is that it was "mastered" with a mid-80s domestic cassette deck. As muc

The Mega Drive version was the same, with extra controller ports on the cartridge. I have happy memories of playing it in a smelly, beer soaked, shared house at uni.

Hmm, I don’t know anything about ebikes but normal bikes seem to be going back to BSA threaded bottom brackets. The last 3 bikes I’ve bought have had BSA.

Personally, I find the "tax dodger" talk to be unhelpful. When I was contracting HMRC would not give me a hard list of rules to follow even if I wanted to. For example if you deliver some piece of code and the customer asks you to

I notice that Dave is based in the UK, as am I. We have one big problem with day rate billing here and that's IR35. IR35 is the dreaded tax code that forbids contractors from appearing to be "disguised employees". There'

"Scon" is, of course , how "scone" is pronounced by all right thinking people but it does somewhat ruin the joke. ;)

Yeah that works in the UK too, although my family’s Irish so I may have picked it up from there. As a kid I found the Irish usage of “press” for cupboard and “runners” for trainers/sneakers confusing as hell.

Now, I’d say the really correct usage would be “a bit of a faff” but if you find saying that too much faff it’s all the same to me mate. Anyway, I’m on the drag getting to the shops. I need to fix a picture thas on the huh. ;)

Not always. Fly tipping is an unwanted problem. Most people would prefer you take it to the dump. I suspect might be one of those regional things like scone/scone[1]. 1. It’s pronounced “scone” and I will fight anyone that says otherwi

I remember in the 1980s entering a computer program into my BBC Micro after watching The Computer Programme[1] and finding out that it had dual spellings of key words like COLOUR/COLOR in its BASIC. So even before the internet was wide

Sorbet can be used inline without external file decorators already and RBS is adding support too[2]. I would not be surprised if that typing information starts finding its way into YJIT for performance improvements. 1. https://so

That's a great link, thanks. Have to admit I'd not heard of Orange Goblin before but I'm headed for a journey threw their back catalogue now starting with The Wolf Bites Back.

I noticed that too. Using landscape on a phone has the same unusual effect, squashing the text to a narrow column. I just used reader mode to get round it.

In most industries regulation is an opportunity for incumbents like Apple. If Apple can profitably provide AI services without breaking privacy laws but their competitors can't Apple wins.
