That seems like a meme from 10 years ago. I don’t think that’s really true anymore is it? I mean Truffle Ruby is as fast as V8 already and MRI yJIT and jRuby are catching up fast. It could also be argued that JVM is the gold standard JIT. I

Wow! The performance benchmarks against redis are very interesting. Considering that Rails 8 gives you Progressive Web Apps out of the box, this is a very competitive setup for a small team. https://github.com/oldmoe/

All I know about Spotify is their embedded player, that gets added to music articles, has been designed to nag you. A popover will randomly cover the controls with a signup banner so that you can’t play the next song without saying no. It’s

Sorry, just to repeat, Kowloon != Kowloon Walled City. Kowloon itself is home to 2 million people and is a much larger geographical area. Walled City was strictly an enclave area around an old Chinese fort within Kowloon proper. A comparis

If that’s a problem for you right now I’d suggest giving JRuby a look as it has no GVL and true multithreading. Hopefully as Ractors mature that problem will be solved for MRI too.

Sorry I hope it came across in my message but I totally agree with you. We most definitely do not need to all use the same tools for the job. Vive la différence.

LOL this made me chuckle. :) I always remap caps to ctrl because ctrl-[ is an acceptable escape key for me as I like to use other insert mode shortcuts. Eg ctrl-h, ctrl-m, ctrl-k etc. I know some people map to escape/ctrl when held but

This strikes me as the difference between English and Esperanto. You wouldn’t design English as the international language but that’s what it has evolved to be. You can still learn Esperanto as a hobby but it’s not going to be as useful day

I don’t think there’s any reason why you have to learn Vi/Vim. I think someone could go their whole career without that. That seems like a perfectly legitimate choice to me. …but, I learned vi somewhere between less running on MSDOS

I'd suggest maybe trying either Solargraph[1] (which also works well for me) or a ctags based solution like ripper tags[2]. On the plus side, ruby-lsp is always being improved and worked on, so just like Ruby in general it's only

Each to their own I guess. Personally I like the ruby-lsp and TPope’s Rails plugin in NeoVim. I dislike heavy weight IDEs, I never find the juice is worth the squeeze.

I think jRuby takes a similar approach. It’s possible to write gems which will use underlying C on MRI or Java when running on jRuby. It would be interesting to know if a “pure” would also help jRuby too.

He’s not wrong though. When I work of systems made of react, 10s micro services using flavour of month libraries and data storage, deployed by K8s on AWS I look longingly at Rails 8 monolith too.

Perhaps you mean statically typed? i.e. type checked at compile time. C is generally not considered to be strongly typed but Ruby is. i.e. types aren't automatically coerced at runtime in Ruby.
