I can't speak about the American experience but as someone English I would say don't worry about erasing your accent. If an accent is too strong, yes it can be a hinderance but English is a very flexible language and native spea

My (limited) understanding was that in the USA it was not illegal to read a book you don't own but it is illegal to make a copy (download) of a book you don't own. I still don't fully grok how Meta can legally download a pira

The pirate sites? There is no pirate site hosting files here, BitTorrent is peer to peer. If it’s fine for a large corp. like Meta to pirate books then it’s fine for everyone else. If it’s a crime for ordinary consumers then it’s a crime fo

Speaking as someone that professionally played vinyl for around 5 years back in the 90s, here's my tip: If you sum the stereo channels into mono then feeback present but inverted on each channel is cancelled out and the problem goes aw

I don't think you even have to say that you have competing offer $1.25X. Simply stating you have a competing offer also for $X is completely believable and will probably get you a improved offer from one of the two interviewing teams.

It’s on the way thankfully. I’m really excited about Sorbet getting behind the new RBS-inline comment syntax and the prospect of both runtime and static analysis as optional tools when needed.

These are good points, in answer to them: 1. Yes this is true but Rails now comes with nice support for async UI built to push updates to the browser via Hotwire and Turbo. You’d need something like that anyway anytime you’re calling an ext

That depends on the Ruby implementation. MRI (CRuby) has a GVL which is why you might use a forking web server like Puma or Pitchfork. JRuby and TruffleRuby though have true multi-threading and no GVL. I’ve used the Concurrent Ruby library

It's not stealing; no one is deprived of anything except rent. If anything the cost of making the video is sunk by the creator just once and then rapidily payed off. Once that happens it's just hosting costs and Moore's, Kryd

Why? Surely knowing the content of the video gives them enough context to serve advertising relevant to the viewer without tracking. At the very least they could guarentee that YouTube Premium tracking doesn't get used for profiling l

Glad to see it's still going. It amuses me that that a project that started in 1993 is still versioned at 0.9.0 for it's latest stable release. It's a good reminder that version number don't necissarily denote stability.

I think a much better way forward is proposed by Jake Zimmerman[1] of the Sorbet team. That is to allow the runtime to parse RBS inline format comments. That retains Sorbet’s fast static checker and its runtime checks which Typescript compi

I disagree. The only feature I miss on Linux is the ctrl-scroll to zoom feature of macOS. If Gnome implemented that as well as macOS does I’d happily switch permanently.
