For now, it goes out to all nodes, though the pace/rollout is different. For our jobs cluster, it swaps them out pretty quickly. For our API cluster, it takes longer so that in-flight requests gracefully get handled by our load balance

We do something similar with Reclaim.ai: It's one monolith Java repo, split into two major workloads that have the same runtime code but are configured differently. In our case, the two workflows are "api" and "jobs"

I've known Bob for over 20 years. I can't say I fortunate enough to call him a very close friend, but we hacked on open source together over the years and evolved into chatting about startups and entrepreneurship. We would get lun

You are mistaken. The money behind the $250k isn’t magic and can’t just be multiplied like that. each FDIC-insured bank pays a premium for each qualified account. 10x the accounts means 10x the money into the pool. So it scales logically. T

Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about the financial system or banking inside baseball. This is just one founder's reaction to the whole mess. We were reluctant to move our funds most of the day yesterday. Felt like a lot of dumb pan

I understand the goal of making the visualizations dynamic, but even the author isn’t directly tying the code that produced the visualization to the code it represents. There’s a reason: Communication of an architecture is partly an artisti

Literally addressed in the case, which is part of the complaint. ~~~ The circumstances surrounding Amazon’s sales to both Kristine and Ethan were highly irregular. Amazon has a policy that people under the age of 18 can only use the service

Just add a simple exception for THIS case. When Amazon has had to do this 1000+ unique times, then we can have the debate of whether their extra work is worth the lost lives of kids. Probably still a loser of an argument IMO but let’s just

Asking Amazon to not bundle these product and instead put up a suicide hotline suggestion instead is not “insisting corporations parent all of us”. It’s insisting on basic decency. And I * AM* parenting my children when I insist on this. T

Yeah that’s super jaded. Seriously consider stepping back and thinking about how much grief the parents are going through. I have a young child who has voiced suicidal thoughts and and it’s so fucking hard. The pandemic has been really roug

I think you’re making it more complicated that it actually is. I believe the case is specifically focusing on the promotion of the kits to underage children. As a society we have already embraced censorship for children. If we can count how

It does not seem like they are doing 1 in any sufficient way: its pretty easy to argue that this is by far the most important special case (it’s literally life and death stakes), and they are failing at it even after a growing PR campaign a

Given how quickly it returned, I suspect it's not a case of some malicious hacker, but rather a bug in which the removal isn't actually "sticking". Is this your main/primary calendar, or a sub-calendar inside of you

Annoyingly, I thought about doing this a few minutes into the outage and then said: "Nah... they'll fix it pretty quickly". Five hours later I finally made the change. UGH.

Seems like if you have tax collection on you’re gonna have a bad time, which is our situation. I’m surprised only a small fraction of Stripe customers collect sales taxes.

Thank you for clarifying that. What I'd love to see is a place where I could view a bill and also the code it impacts, with inline diffs for the relevant bits (but not the dumb formatting / bullet numbering stuff). Is that too muc

Your response seems to have a political bent to it, though I could be presuming too much. Assuming you intended for it that way: how does that explain RFCs seemingly behaving the same way? That's about as techie as you can get!

I wish government legislature did this with their bills. Reading a piece of legislation is maddening because it's always just a description of diffs, without seeing the final outcome. I never really realized that this symptom was commo

You'd like my startup, Reclaim.ai. It literally reschedules the future (tasks, habits, 1:1s, etc) partly based on what is in the past. For example, have some time blocked to do something but then got distracted? No problem: just delete

We are using AWS Aurora (non serverless) and getting crushed by IOPS charges. We do very little caching in our app, which makes the architecture simple, but the downside is we end up relying on DB-level caching implicitly. And so when the D

The Google Calendar API leaves a lot to be desired (documentation, etc), but over time what I've found is that it's really well-designed once you understand it. In their case, they went with a "pageToken" variable which
