This was a huge reason why I decided to go with a 16" MBP with an i9 vs the M1 today. I assume this will get worked out eventually , but as massive as Apple's gravity is in their ecosystem to pull apps along, they will have a muc

You link against QtQuick to get the qml/js environment to run your qml apps. There is some performance overhead vs straight c++ code, but its negligible even on embedded systems.

Qt documentation and examples are the best place to start. Qt has some of the best documentation of any SDK I've seen (open or closed source). In a Qt install there are TONS of examples that you can just open in QtCreator and tinker wi

Which is disappointing. Swarm is infinitely easier to setup and get running, and it scales down / uses WAY fewer resources than k8s.

I think you need both. I find that working towards big real deadlines(not bs dates!) can really focus your attention on a critical path, but always operating in that mode is a straight path to burn out.

Highly unlikely Apple would cede the software engineering market for a competitor to step in. Almost everyone in my company would prefer to have a MacBook vs a Thinkpad/Dell/etc if given the choice.

I keep an office and a gym in my finished basement and it works perfectly for that separation. Not feasible for everyone but if you have the space it’s totally worth creating the division.

There are plenty of disruptive ubuntu upgrade issues, for example for almost 5 years (through 12.04 to 16.04!) if you installed on LVM volumes your /boot partition never cleaned up old vmlinuz and initrd images, causing dpkg-reconfigur

One of the things keeping me on using Blue Iris is its use of QuickSync decoding for motion detection(which amazingly works in a virtual machine!) and Direct-to-Disk recording(prevents re-encoding streams for saved clips). With 6 1080p came

I find "create x entity API" is a lower focus type task. I would argue that high functioning differentiator is the thinking/focus time deciding what and how to build. The implementation details are obviously very important to
