People reading the answers are more important than those answering - there are a lot more of them. Sure, people answering provide the valuable content, but most are not put off by the editing as you seem to be - if an edit is made, it is cl

The main issue is that a lot of the 'off-topic' rules are focused around content that doesn't work on SO. It doesn't work because it's time based - asking 'What is the best IDE for X?' is subjective and ch

One of the main points of the editing system is to fix the biggest problem with Q&A sites before SO - outdated information. Editing other's posts means that content can get updated, even if the original poster isn't around to

Python's is actually a little nicer too, in 3.x - it has two types of chains, the 'root cause' one like Java, and a 'this is what I was handling when this exception happened' - to stop an error in your exception han

Good news - it's literally right there at the top of the question. "This question already has an answer here:" with a link. It is impossible to close a question on SE sites as a duplicate without providing the question being

It's impossible to do that on SE sites - if you try to flag as a duplicate, the site requires you to chose the question you believe the one you are flagging to be a duplicate of. The ability to vote is disabled until you do, and the si

Really? I see it as the exact opposite. Sure, Python added some pain from 2-3. They did so to fix the main flaws in the language and remove deprecated stuff. The language is now far better and the cost has mostly been paid. The alternative

If that happens, you revert the changes. Editing to change the nature of the question is definitely not a valid edit. If people do it consistently, a mod should intervene.
