Most employees in the US do not in fact have unions. Only about 10% of US workers are unionized, partly because of their employers' attempts to prevent that.

Not even more efficient. Just cheaper. Efficiency implies there's no drop in quality.

Sounds like their current strategy is stationary-only, i.e. not for use in vehicles, owing to the lower power density of sodium batteries. But that does not mean it's a problem that won't be solved in the future.

The only argument for investing in carbon capture today seems to be to allow the technology to mature. We'd probably be saying similar things about the effectiveness of solar panels if we started developing that technology now. The ide

I think the point of Smoky Bear is to prevent accidental fires through carelessness, from somebody not extinguishing their campfire or a discarded lit cigarette, by the general public. Managing wildfire risk with intentional, controlled bur

What happens when a gigacasted underbody is damaged? If it's all just one big piece I've got to imagine any repairs are orders of magnitude more expensive than replacing a few interchangeable parts.

Your original post didn't just posit a "dystopian" future. "...even the overwhelming majority AI experts coming out and saying there is at least 20% chance of a global catastrophe or even risk of extinction". You&#x

You see, the jump from "Bots take over all the karma points on social media sites" to "Slaughterbots" is a pretty wide chasm I'm having trouble getting over mentally. This is why I can't take such predictions s

Can anybody explain, specifically, what that 20% risk looks like? The most specific I ever see is "an adversarial AI will become sentient and wipe out humanity". It sounds like as much snake oil as the people pushing AI itself.

With paper books I'm more concerned with having to have space to put it when I'm done. But, I find it more enjoyable to read a physical book, and am more likely to re-read it.

In a good organization, there will be several layers of people owning failures of different types. The low level manager can claim ownership of failure to sufficiently manage expectations, their manager can claim ownership of failure to pri

It's about shielding the team from the consequences of failure. A good manager will say "If my team failed it's because I did not prepare them well enough/lead them well enough/manage expectations well enough".

Smart developers both know SQL well, AND use ORM's. Sure ORM's are not going to write the most optimized code by default, and they're not going to build indexes for you, etc. But they are a huge productivity enhancer and work

This isn't about regulating what content American citizens are creating. It's about regulating the involvement of adversarial foreign governments to distribute that information. These are quite separate concerns.
