I let go of DVDs for quite some time but have re-enabled https://dvd.netflix.com recently. Good selection, plus the much slower act of selecting, receiving and exchanging is sort of a welcome restricted diet compared to the endl

I held this view too for quite a while. But in recent years as I’ve been exposed to some really powerful features in VSCode and GoLand, I’ve adopted a much more flexible workflow. I always have my CLI editor running and might spend the day

Can you share more about the transition back? Even a few years away from code and I can feel my fluency waning. As is my appetite to spend my small amount of free time on dev projects just to attempt to stay current. (Such things are fun, b

For folks like my wife and me, who are really bad about regular exercise and have lots of competing demands, I‘ve seen step tracking actually be the prompt for that 30m walk. Seeing a particularly low step count later in the day has often b

My situation is two parents working and two younger kids. The element of rising early that actually energizes me is control. It is one of the few things I can unilaterally do to shift productive time. The rest of my day is the fragmented or

I do wonder what percentage of folks are actually in a position to choose? For a lot of people they’re going to be interacting with JWTs because they’re dealing with someone else’s auth, so the more they know about this structure the better

FWIW I like the bare bones UX and instant feedback. One thing though: it seems to not work on Firefox (stuck on 0.0% success rate). Chrome is fine.

Sky high salaries in tech aren’t justified by the industry’s absolute contribution to society. Related: pushing the message that folks should constantly be looking for more money and switching jobs is a net harm.

It has become more important to me as search has deteriorated in general. If I find a possibly useful site that isn't SEO-compliant, there is a decent chance I might not be able to find it again if I don't save a link.

I'm a longtime Pinboard user but it has some annoying quirks. The biggest weakness for me is the limited search. e.g. Yesterday I was trying to find my kids' school menu site and searched for "menu"... nothing. Turns out

I recall the big transition from 2400 to 9600, and as a teenager I couldn’t afford any of the modems. But then IIRC CompuCom came along with a much more affordable 9600 modem, with the catch that it could only talk to other CompuComs, which

Note that iCloud Drive on the Mac is a bit random about when it decides it wants to sync files. I ended up abandoning that setup after too many times of being somewhere and finding my laptop never pushed up the latest version of a file.
