Go is an average language but it's a solid product. The tooling is excellent. A lot of thougt has been put into making things simple. From the folder structure to the final binary, everything is smooth. It's just a shame that the

I suspect this is like duck typing with some verification before compilation : the compiler checks that the object sent as parameter implements the correct interface.

replace Go with Python in the text, and you won't see a difference: there are iterable, keyable, file-like interfaces, etc. And creating your own is trivial.

software architecture is a bitch, so reading about the book open source software architecture could give you good ideas. To be more specific decoupling the rendering, from the commands, from the inputs, from the external processes would go

eureka moments and plateaus make it non linear. I think it's more like a repeated S curve at different scale, Fractal-like. Accepting plateaus and going on nevertheless is one of the most important thing for a project.

For many projects of playful hacking, you want to reach a goal. If the goal is learning the language itself, it's allright and we are in agreement. But more often, you want to build an app, a toy and changing language midway is a shor

For you , it has no advantage. You have integrated all js by now and you avoid the common mistakes instintively. For me, it is the gray area, I am a language geek so the semantics of js are quite clear but js bytes me sometimes. In coffees

So this is a kind of teenage hubris thing ? In which other field this would be normal ? I play the devil's advocate there, but please bear with me : IMHO, this attitude is among the causes of the high failure rates of many projects (p

As Gabe Newell (Valve/Steam CEO) put it : "Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem." This guy built the 21st version of a Studio. it's not perfect (the model has its own problems) but at least

it's a mix, some stuff is high level (closure), some is low level (for loop before ECMA6). This is very uncomfortable when you're learning it, you never know on which side you are.

mmm... as I get older and (hopefully) more experienced, I have become doubtful of this point. Apparent simplicity comes often from ignoring the subtle difficulties in a problem. Adding a layer is often the disagreable but reasonable thing t

Not really. Databases are very common in gamedev but, most of the time, they are not relational and are ad-hoc (i.e the database program is coded in-house). All of this for performance.

There are not bad tools, but not the best either. If you spend mental stamina on trivial things, you have less for the important ones, the ones a compiler cannot check. This kind of tool (SSL) should be written in ada or haskell.
