Doesn't OpenBSD files system corrupt easily, ie due to powercuts? I can recall OpenBSDers talking about how they used a UPS to prevent this.

Impressive! TBH I'd rather that dystopia than the one where people are constantly having their things stolen with zero recourse.

I'm always suspicious of low crime rates - often it means people don't bother reporting crimes as they know nothing will happen. IE, if I get robbed in the City of London is it even worth calling the police?

I like Zig the language. Probably more than rust - Zigs singular focus on making systems programming ergonomic really appeals to me. Rust tooling however makes it an easy choice. Unit testing with pretty printing, proptest crate for propert

Duckduckgo has been my search engine for years now, never use google anymore. Only other search engine I use is yandex, which is very useful for search terms that US-hased search engines mess with the results of.

I used to write software around cattle traceability, mainly for the Australian & New Zealand markets. Both jurisdictions have an official traceability scheme - each animal is legally mandated to have a unique identifier (RFID), and its

Europeans hate moving. They're not like the European diaspora, they will live within a days drive of Switzerland, all their life, and never even consider the concept of trying to make a life there to earn 2-5x as much.

In the EU != by the EU. By EU I'm referring to the governing bodies, ie my reference to the EU regulating things. If you re-read what I said with that in mind, does it make more sense to you?

Remember when local US companies with zero EU presence were geo-blocking EU visitors in-case they were found to be in-violation of the GDPR? Presumably the fear was a crack team of EU secret service agents would kidnap and illegally extradi

Imagine a world in which the EU instead funded research & implementation of public protocols to undermine US big tech? IE, they mention chat clients in the text, why not create something in the spirit of XMPP (or even revive it if the t

As a fan of the books first, I even find it hard to enjoy Peter Jacksons movies. The dialogue is dumbed down, and it's all very cheesey and hollywood. Probably would've enjoyed it a lot more if I'd never read Tolkien. Also be
