Why is it that some former colonies of this power have done exceptionally well for themselves, and others, nearly a century on, still think about it every day and use it as an excuse for their lack of development?

Fair. I'm not an OS dev, so I don't really know what POSIX compliance with cat or whatever gets you. All I know is that I'm increasingly replacing classic unix cli tools with rust ones that are just better and faster.

Yeah that makes sense. I thought extradition laws usually had some kind of clause like "only applies if it'd be a crime in both jurisdictions", but now I think about that I can't remember where I heard that or why I thin

Question: why pro-active block some authoritarian countries like the UK, but not others like China? Is it because only the UK passes legislation that threaten people outside of its borders? Or does China do it too and we ignore it?

I've long been curious about the Ultima series. Would this be approachable for someone in 2025? I've played stuff like Chrono Trigger and dig 2D graphics. But 90s games always tend to have a lot of weird inconvenient stuff that ma

my big issue when I looked into it was the default filesystem was quite an antiquated design that would lose or corrupt data in a powercut or unexpected shutdown. Last I checked many of the devs have fairly elaborate uninterruptable power s

I like that these guys are here. I definitely appreciate what they're doing. But I think I like software that sucks a little bit. BSPWM with its config as shell commands to the bspc daemon is about right; re-compiling C code is a bit m

At some point, we need to stop being surprised at authoritarian countries doing authoritarian things. Here's hoping the inevitable regime change will be a peaceful one.

I can tell you right now that, based on what you're saying, you'd almost definitely consider me to be a Nazi. I don't consider myself to be a Nazi, I'm nowhere near the historical defintion of a nazi, or even it's m

So the conspiracy is they paid 12,000 for a temporary logo that had a hidden SS insgnia, for 2 months? If you were a neo-nazi, do you think that's how you'd spend $12,000? Like is that the best bang for your buck, to maybe catch a

Opposite effect one, lost interest in Roc after reading that. If anything I don't think Haskell goes far enough the automatic currying, points free stuff. If you're going to be declarative, don't half ass it.

The issue is reality not being settled or agreed upon. For disputed territories there is effectively two realities both officially backed by sovereign countries. No, in a disputed territory there's one reality, and 1..n delusions.
