Having to recompile and reflash your wristwatch is probably going to limit the number of things you use TOTP for.

To be fair, there isn't a whole lot of code there. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft had the WinPE generator written already for some other project.

It's not a service, it's a driver. "Anti"malware drivers typically run with a lot of permissions to allow spying on all processes. Driver failures likely mean the kernel state is borked as well, so Windows errs on the si

It's possible that the "hacking" involved extracting data from some binary files making up a mobile or PC game. This isn't as trivial as incrementing an ID, but still should not constitute hacking.

Detecting system crashes would be hard. You could try logging and comparing timestamps on agent startups and see if the difference is 5 minutes or less. Buggy kernel drivers crash Windows hard and fast.

It is trivial to verify Meta is doing this. If you go to Facebook or Instagram and look at the network traffic, you might find requests to /api/graphql, with a lot of weird values in the request payload, but no GraphQL query text

Where's the "crying" part? The GraphQL schema designed in this article is very trivial, nothing beyond a "hello world" level. There are no advantages to using GraphQL here, and many well-known disadvantages of using

If so many developers manage to get stuff done on Windows, students can do it, too. This post feels like it's 10 years old, when there was no Visual Studio Code, Windows Terminal, or WSL.

If Firefox delivers a feature the AdTech industry would be OK with, then Chrome can adopt it and kill third-party cookies. Firefox already can block such cookies, but some legitimate sites may break (but developers don't care about Fir

Some SaaS providers will let you choose your cloud and set up their services there. As for the latency, it might not matter for all applications, or it may encourage the devs to spend more time optimizing the number of SQL queries.

Eh, I find PowerShell nicer than bash. And having a way to use .NET/COM stuff ad-hoc can be useful in scripts. For example, to talk to Windows Installer with reasonable performance over COM. Or to launch the best browser: (New-Ob

PowerShell isn't quite a .NET language, and you can't really write serious .NET software in PowerShell. But if you need to access the power of .NET (or heck, COM) from a script or an interactive shell, PowerShell lets you do that.

PowerShell is more verbose than Bash, and has its idiosyncrasies (like sometimes automatically unwrapping 0/1-element arrays into scalars when you least expect it), but it is more productive and more readable. Object-orientation can be
