What are you comparing PHP to when calling it super slow? As far as I'm aware, it performs in the same league as Python, Ruby and Perl. There are reasons that this may be a joke, yours isn't valid.

I sold a site on there for about €2500, and the acquaintance who recommended it sold a site for something like €10000.

I never find it strange when Opera doesn't work. It's not Opera's fault, web developers generally don't care about it.

As pointed out in other comments, you didn't actually bench them and it turns out that Rackspace is better bang for buck in CPU terms. I wonder how much of your data is flawed in the same way.

Of course it means 6 things are monitored, I feel like you're exaggerating your confusion here. Pingdom uses the word check to refer to the same thing, they seem to be doing ok.

It relates to a previous thread on HN discussing PHP being like a hammer with a claw on both sides. It's not some random image link.

I can't be the only one who thinks Codeigniter is a terrible framework. Does it still break GET vars by design? It seems like it's mostly the tool of choice for web designers.

I pushed it to 10k without much effort on a relatively small box. This doesn't sound far fetched to me. Edit: I actually pushed it to 10k/s rather than 10k simultaneous, which I suppose is a different matter.
