Maybe my education doesn't mirror most STEM people's, but I took philosophy, literature, history, etc. courses as part of my Bioengineering degree. I could also take capstone courses from various arts programs as electives, despit

I think there are plenty of people who believe "if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." I'm lucky enough that my job is both interesting and impactful. The people that surround me are either

The original essay linked combats the institutional sexism claim with data that suggests the number of women who claim to have experiences sexism is on par with non-STEM career choices, but the exit from STEM vastly exceeds that of other fi

Anything biomedical related, we have a bunch of clinical collaborators at the research institute I work at, plenty of tech that needs clinical expertise.

He specifically addresses that point when he says most people live in apartments without dedicated superchargers. I'm not sure how accurate that statement is but it makes sense to me. I haven't seen very many apartment buildings w

A lot of the ski resorts I've been to have mountain biking, golf, and other sports in the off-season, as well as basically doing no maintenance and costing very little money to run outside of the winter months.

Looking at computing vs biology as two fields is disingenuous, given that computing hasn't been around long enough to stagnate, although looking at ML research it is slowing down significantly. Computing is slowing down advancement as

The "pioneer of Crispr" got 3 years for endangering human lives, which is pretty much a slap on the wrist. I would've done more, and I'm one of those "bioengineers" you talk about. Unsanctioned human experiment

"solving" wealth inequality doesn't mean making everyone's wealth equal though, I think the problem lies with the inability to afford housing, food, and healthcare. If people are able to comfortably live I doubt they

I think the point was that copyright is typically discussed in terms of its negative impacts. I, for instance, have never seen any discourse about the benefits of copyright. The benefits seem obvious but there's still a place, in my op

I have a $25 (normally $50) pair of headphones that have a replaceable cable and aluminum housings, which have been through multiple laundry cycles and a lot of abuse that look and sound just as good as the day I got them. I'd honestly

My experience has been the opposite. I have IEMs with a fairly nice 4-core braided copper cable and it takes a minute to untangle them if they're in my pocket. My other headphones don't fit in my pocket so no problems there.

I don't think vegetarians are usually the ones commenting, there's a reason vegans get a lot of flak on the internet. I've also never heard vegetarians commenting on anyone's dietary choices.

This is the hypothesis that charitableness can be modeled on a normal distribution, but the additional incentive of religion shifts the mean of that distribution higher for religious people than atheists. It's not offensive to believe

Most religions are centered around the afterlife, and you can't take anything with you when you die. The dogma of most religions states that charity is good and will help get you into whatever version of heaven they believe in, hence c
