Your typical Rust project does not have over 1000 dependencies. Zed is not a typical Rust project; it's a full fledged editor that includes a significant array of features and its own homegrown UI framework .

The only detractions on the software side that I ever see are about it being a “hack” via Hallium, but to be frank, the device actually ships and is usable today. Linux purists probably need to stop complaining. It does seem like there’s be

Now imagine it being said by someone presenting and doing the same hand pyramid stance that they make every Apple employee in WWDC videos do. All kidding aside, it’s weird to read. Ever since I was a kid, I was taught that beginning a sente

You have to understand how ridiculous this answer sounds. This is a technical forum. There is an expectation of how things are shared. Images and relying on built in OCR is not anywhere in line with that expectation.

I only ever learned about it from an issue about shitty backups on the Signal repo(s). I'm out at a bar so not about to dig up the link but it's probably easy to find on GitHub.

Okinawan (“blue zone”) is technically a different cuisine, or subset depending on how you choose to view it, of Japanese cuisine. It’s not like you can just blanket label it “Japanese diet”.

Because at some point, HN builders mostly left the site and it’s just become /. 3.0.

Signal has done a very poor job of calling out that you can optionally connect your old and new phone via cable; the transfer will be much more stable and quick. (No, this does not really help if you're one of the TouchID holdouts on a

Rust is an interesting case to me. There are certainly a lot of libraries on crates.io, but I’ve noticed more projects in that ecosystem are willing to push back and resist importing unproven crates for smaller tasks. Most imported crate

There is little chance they don't know about minijinja/askama/tera/etc. The repo for their project outlines why they're doing this, though: https://github.com/LilyAcorn/django-rusty-templates I

GrapheneOS project people were literally in comments here in the past month or so indicating they’re in talks with another device maker to have an alternative to the Pixel.

It’s a parallel universe Lisp/Rust as far as HN goes.

That’s partly due to reach, though. The combination of the browser coupled with Electron eating away at those native UI layers means it unfortunately makes little sense to bother with alternatives, even if the alternatives are better. I.e,

Well, theoretically they won’t. Anyone who’s worked in an engineering team is familiar with someone forgetting to check ‘if(doNotDoThisCondition)’. This is why (among many other reasons) opt-in is more user respecting here than opt-out.

It’s easy to forget but this is pretty on point IMO. There was so much overlap between HN and /r/programming, tons of industry people would just back to back scroll them and ignore the rest of Reddit.

Last I checked, it’s a polyfill that Chrome won’t default include - they’re just saying that they’d have a polyfill in JS and it’s on site authors to use. That breaks old unmaintained but still valuable sites.
