Here's one idea. Effective land tax drives the sale price to 0, so it may be better to make taxes absolute, not relative to value. When someone wants to give up land because the taxes are too high, they just tell the city government. F

The taxes can be delayed until the property is sold. This still disincentivises using land as investment but works fine for people who just don't want to move.

If all your competitors match your prices with no delay, lowering prices gives you no competitive advantage but makes your margins worse.

You can, and probably should, have reasonable defaults. Configuration should be version controlled, but separately from source code because it describes deployments, not images used for deployments.

Fair! And I have to say that the docs are pretty good considering the huge surface they cover! Same underlying API, but so many languages.

It really doesn't help that Slack requires an account, isn't searchable and doesn't preserve history :)

I was going to comment on the same quote. The problem is that one may still want concurrency even when a single thread on a single CPU is enough.

The direction is good though. Instead of a fine they could be required to pay a space janitor to clean up their mess in the next N years. That would provide funding and motivation for space janitor companies to improve their technology fast

The docs could be better, but it's as easy as: 1. Install Nix from https://nixos.org/download.html 2. Find the package from https://search.nixos.org/packages 3. Start a shell with `nix-shell -p <nam

This is a very poor argument. Immediately sentencing every criminal to death would also save at least one 9 year old girl.

The problem I see is that tables and views are a poor general purpose interface: if you don't know what the indexes are, you can't guarantee reasonable performance.

Rather than 2, isn't it better to let a single application own the database and manage the schema?

The same adversary trying to hack twice with the same method is entirely plausible though. On the other hand if they invited GP to their HQ, they'd have a lot to lose unless the companies were entirely fake.

Don't use them, duh. Pay enough money to get a copy on premises if it ever gets useful enough for that. In the time they'll get around to changing their procedures, models will get small enough that it will be a non-issue. Disclai

Their goal should be encouraging people to demand open software and hardware, not being principled. Youtube and Twitter have power, not acknowledging that is dumb.

> And lord knows actual governments, even the EU, aren't going to enforce consumer protections. Ah yes, we don't trust an actual elected government to enforce consumer protections, so we'll trust a private monopoly instead

So less freedom is good because freedom is good but any extra freedom will be stolen anyway? This is an idiotic take.

I don't see how attacking the "remote work is work" side of the debate vs "only office work is work" helps promoting "unpaid work is work".
