This is most accurate top-level comment on the page. I once TAed an animal cognition class for Herb Terrace of Nim Chimpsky fame (or infamy), and I can say, we have yet to demonstrate any non-human language use. Non-human communication is

That's partly the point. Communication is broad and can apply in a lot of ways, but language requires syntax. If it can be learned by conditioning, or inherited by instinct, it's not language.

Not true, downvoted comments get dimmed and placed lower, so the majority of viewed comments will be higher quality. It doesn't communicate anything to the author, true, but insulting them is still not going to get you any closer to yo

But saying "This line is a low-effort, cliché dismissal that does not engage the statement in a meaningful way" does none of the things you're hoping for, either. A much better idea is to down vote and move on.

The original statement is also low-effort and cliché, so why should a comment require more effort?

I have this vague recollection that back in the 90's, some culture jamming collective tried to do adbusting defacement of billboards as an LLC, to avoid jail time. Might have been a CrimethInc. cell, I don't recall.

You're responding to something not in the parent comment. "Protect the vulnerable" there probably means enforcing contractual obligations to pay severance that was promised, not to offer severance in the first place.

Agreed. The one thing PHP demonstrably did better than other langs (other than be a simpler Perl) was be web-first. Other langs assume you could be doing anything, and here's the extra steps necessary to make it serve pages. PHP assume

This is just incorrect. I've collaborated in studies using anonymized MRI scans and health data. You don't get a blank check, but there are plenty of studies doing exactly this.

I mean, it's always been this way. Eaves Ranch and Old Tucson are popular for westerns, and go back decades. When I was in Japan recently, we went to the Toei Studios theme park, the center of which is an Edo-era village with half a br

This feels like a very unlikely scenario. More likely, both the employer and the union are sexist, and it's an orthogonal concern. I could equally ask, what about a sexist company, and a non-sexist union? Unionizing is a double benef

Yeah, but Clojure vectors are actually trees built to be persistent based on ideas from Bagwell's hash array mapped tries (what Clojure maps are), so they're not technically O(1). Both maps and vectors in Clojure are trees, albeit
