I would bet a significantly larger percentage of posters here use Apple devices than does the general population. A lot of the population just buys the cheapest thing that claims to do what they want.

It turns out it's not possible to do that. We've been trying since the 1960's.

It’ll have to be better than today’s spicy autocomplete technology to do that, though. ChatGPT will never be in the driver’s seat; it can’t be trusted.

The title is incorrect -- this is still using Objective-C, it's just obfuscating the syntax for no really good reason.

The point is: what's the point of wrapping this at all? You can just directly call `[object foo]` instead of doing your own `object_foo()` wrapper just because you want to make the syntax prettier. It's like doing `#define saith p

You can't rely solely on autorelease unless you're going to put literally everything in the autorelease pools, which would not be great for performance.

To this day, I can’t read the Joy of Tech comic because I remember their response to Al Gore’s climate activism: “Al Gore is fat, haha”.

this discussion does not belong on HN, but the Fifth Circuit is the purest concentration of activist Trump-nominated whackjob judges in the entire federal judiciary. Google “fifth circuit overreach”

You really need to read some mid-90's books like Microserfs or some of the early Mac histories for some historical context. None of this was new or particularly unusual in the valley at the time. -- https://en.wikipedia.org&

That’s literally one of the questions at stake. If I buy a machine — whether I’m compelled to or not — why shouldn’t I have the right to fix it myself? A contract does not contravene federal or state law.

That sounds trivial? I mean, you can do that in C, what’s surprising about it? I have never found Python as nice to use as you seem to have, but Ruby always fit like a glove. I’ve written Python since 1999 and I still would rather use almos

Yes. Steam is more or less a good Mac citizen aside from not being fully Apple Silicon native. But, as previously stated, the entire catalog was 32-bit and it evaporated overnight when Catalina ended support for 32-bit executables.

Pre-NeXT takeover, Apple had a lot of folks like Quinn to support developers, and an entire documentation department churning out content. Quinn was always one of if not the best. While much was gained in the NeXT merger, the biggest thing

Subpar was accurate. What you can theoretically do with an SWF file given a new from-scratch runtime and what you could actually do with the extant Flash player at the time are different topics.
